Baggage boxcar weathering project

I managed to find the prototype of this car,

but it was in black and white so I had to guess how it was weathered. I did notice though its griminess was consistent across the sides.

I masked the car; prepping it to be airbrushed with a filter.

Getting back to work on the layout

I have not worked on anything in almost a year but hope to get back to it soon. I did get the work bench cleaned off so I can get started again.

Below is a link for a video of the last area completed on the layout almost 2 years ago. I did start a couple of old kits last year and will finish those first along with a patch job on a transfer caboose.

Salt weathering a roof; my first time.

I finally decided to embark on salt weathering after I saw the roof tops of Yannis' salt weathered roofs on his box cars.

With his guidance I was able to accomplish the look I wanted for this car,

but before starting on the roof I weathered the sides and added details to make it suitable for my 1974 era collection.

Fading and weathering a shiny glossy brass model; again

I have been meaning to weather this shiny model for some time.

I mixed up a batch/filter of 5 percent CNR green with 95 percent flat hazy clear coat and airbrushed the sides.

Custom Hand Crafted Flatcar & Gondola Loads

This all started several months ago when I cut some scrap aluminum and steel material into appropriate HO sized sheets of plate steel with the intention of building steel plate loads for flat cars.  Well now that I have some extra time at home I decided to give it a try and then realized these may be of interest to other modelers too and so I have several plate steel loads, structural shapes (material has been ordered), and pipe loads availa

Tour of the Valley Line

Hope this finds you safe and well, all things considered. Looks like it'll be a while before anybody is able to visit the layout, so if you've ever wanted to attend an open house and couldn't - or if you're just looking for a 23 minute distraction from the current craziness - give this a view. Feedback welcomed - Enjoy!
