Quad Servo DCC Decoder – Improved Version

Following a number of comments from modellers who built Quad Servo DCC Decoders (QSDD), as published in the February and March 2020 issues of MRH Magazine, an improved version is now available.

Weathering Confalone Style

Finally got around to weathering the GP7 that my wife bought me for Christmas using the techniques from the Mike Confalone weathering videos as well as some rolling stock that needed it:

Rolling stock transport

I do modular railroading, so I need a way to safely and conveniently transport rolling stock. Most of my rolling stock is Accurail, blue box Athearn, Atlas, or resin kits. I value the ruggedness of these but none of these come with the fancy packaging systems seen in more high end models. The boxes clutter up the setup and are annoying to manage also IMO. So here's what I came up with <continued>.

Glue or epoxy with electrical conduit

Is there a glue or epoxy that acts as an electrical conduit other than solder

PA Scale Models help FM H16-44

Hi,

I'm looking for a powered underframe for the subject engine.  It's diecast and now and again NIB (Bowser) ones are on Ebay.  I saw the frame no. and it's 42000. Not an Athearn no. I think but looks like one.  Bowser said that they made a frame for the engine a while back but can't help.  The motor on the underframe I saw has brass flywheels but I can't find anything like it.  I picked up a 41018 (not here yet), from an Athearn S12 or SW/7.  The SW/1000 frame is not compatible.

Any comments appreciated,

Murky/muddy shallow waters

I'm looking for ideas on modelling murky water.

I'd love to see what model railroaders have come up with.

I've been exploring mediums to do this and so far only one has caught my eye on youtube.

Mealmine Deck

I'm adding a 18" X 80" extension to my shelf layout. I am looking for an easy deck material and have no use for a full sheet of plywood. I can get 2' X 4' plywood panels but also noted melamine shelving in 18" X 8' sizes at half the price of plywood. Has anyone tried this material? It would be on a traditional grid frame of 1 X 3 or if the melamine is a good option I could use wall brackets. Thoughts?

BN 8th Sub (Issaquah Branch) 1/29 Scale (Outdoors)

I've never taken the time to draw up a track plan for the layout, but I finally sat down and drew up a track plan of the layout I'm building. Details to follow in next post to keep the lead post clean.

Walthers Vs. BLI Plymouth Loco

How does the BLI Plymouth compare to the Walthers Plymouth?

How much do they each weigh? Does one run better than the other? Does one have better detail than the other?

Railfanning the D&H in 1978: Catching Some Trains On My Layout Before the Teardown (with real train sounds!)

Here's a video I shot on my layout.

"On a fine spring morning in 1978, I headed out to Plattsburgh to see what I could catch on the D&H Champlain Division. First up was SC-19, the Whitehall-Rouses Point local freight, with a Geep on point. After clearing the yard, SC-12, the Plattsburgh local, headed out onto the siding, and after picking up a boxcar, headed up to the GP mill. After watching them switch the mill, we caught them down at the yard again to wrap up this day of railfanning on the D&H."

Enjoy!
