Shelf Layout Update - Simplifying the Simple

Thought there might be some folks out there interested in an update from Alco-land.

I know small and simple layouts aren't everyone's cup of tea, but it's how I enjoy our fun hobby...especially now that my current free time is VERY limited. Details and pics to follow below...

Thank You John Glaab

I'm a little behind in my reading, and I just read the January MRH Online News.  The first story announced the passing of John Glaab.

I did not know John, but many years ago I visited Cass, WV and rode the Cass Scenic Railroad.  I enjoyed the visit and decided to model my town of Ashley Creek after Cass.  John released an excellent kit of the Doctor's House in Cass, and I purchased one.  I didn't have a layout at the time, but I knew when I started building, I wanted to include that kit.

Finding Quality Drill Bits

I recently bought some Walthers drill bits (#77-79) at a LHS and they were very poor quality with no apparent point and packaged differently than in the past. The shop owner had no comment and I immediately placed a Mc Master Carr order for some high speed steel bits. Has anyone else noted this?

Staggered Gaps in Track, between power districts & reverser zones

I know that it is generally accepted that gaps in the tracks be staggered to some degree,...for both power districts and reverse zones. But how little, 0R how much is acceptable??   Is 1/2" acceptable between power districts??

Nozzle Change on an FDM 3D Printer: 0.4 mm to 0.25 mm

Quick summation for those who are thinking of getting involved in 3D printing for model railroading: Resin printers (see the Anycubic Photon that has been at the top of the board for the last few days) do fantastic detail on small parts. FDM printers (nozzles shooting warm plastic), by comparison, are usually meant for larger projects and prototyping (think brackets for equipment or buildings). While FDM's are generally cheaper to buy and run than resin, and the maintenance is less, they do sacrifice fine quality compared to the resin printers.

Flock Material Falling Off Trees

I am in the process of making trees for my layout. I am using Woodland Scenics metal tree armatures and Woodland Scenics clump foliage material. First I applied Hob-e-tac glue to the tree armatures and let it dry until it turns clear as recommended, then I apply the clump foliage material making sure that it adheres to the glue. The trouble that I am having is that the foliage material begins falling off in small pieces after a few days as if the tree was losing its foliage in the fall time. My question is, has anyone experienced a similar situation, and if so what the remedy was?

How to stiffen the fabric they give you for fencing

Hi People, I need help again if possible.

I recently purchased Walther's  electrical sub-station and with the kit comes a fabric similar to wedding tulle. Do any of you have any thoughts on how to make the fabric a little more rigid to facilitate installing it on the fence.

I have tried starch but it doesn't work very well so I'm open to suggestions. Thanx Steve Klein

Creating my module with your help.

Good morning all,

Here is one of those questions with no Yes or No, or no right or wrong answer. Just a food for thought post.

I am dipping my toe into HO. While I have a major N scale project underway. I know this is not the best thing to do, but that nagging voice just will not go away with HO and the idea to model something completely different.

So toss in you vote, to sorta make this like a poll put your vote in the subject line of your reply..
