Rivarossi parts

I have a Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 that threw a crankpin a few days ago. My old eyes can't find it so I'm trying to locate a new one. It is on the left rear drive set and is the one on the geared wheelset. I believe the part number is either R04467 or P-122-017. It measures m1.4 x 3.2mm with a 3.0mm hex head. I've checked ebay and others without success. Any help would be appreciated.

Intentionally creating conflicting train movements for operators during operation

Intentionally creating conflicting train movements for operators during operation.

It was pointed out my layout is not set up logically,   Why is the Top most part of the layout mostly run out of Old Pueblo Yard on the lower section of the layout?  Why do you run most of the upper part of your layout from the yard on the bottom level of the layout?

Your Layout is point to point, would it not be better to run all the upper area as one section and the lower area as another section?

Rise and Run Calculations

Building a small Mom and Pop coal distributor and need a ramp up to 9 scale feet. So in doing the calculations for the grade up to the 9 foot deck I came across a % grade calculator.

www.inchcaculator.com

Rise over Run to Percent Calculator - Inch Calculator

Any way on with my question is 5% too much for a coal dump?

To obtain a 3% grade i will need 300 scale feet in HO. 200 ft is 4.5%.

Sequoia sand house and tower model#4012

I bought the Sequoia kit, sand house and tower #4012, 20 years ago, I am finally getting to build it. When I opened the box all the parts were there but the the building paperwork wasn't. Does anyone know where I could find this paperwork, instructions and templates? or does someone have these and can e-mail them to me, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Flexible MDF spline sub-roadbed

Looking for information using flexible MDF panels ripped into strips and used for splined sub-roadbed. There was a layout builder who used this technique and I am looking for more info if anyone out there knows more.

This is the only reference photo I managed to save from several years ago. I wish I took better notes and could give the original poster credit for both the technique and the image!

Flexible MDF

The whole purpose of the mines railroad was to get the ore to the smelter.

We go back in time and look at the beginning, then over time the many changes of the Garfield Smelter.

Mineral Spirits for track cleaning

I recall some very high recommendations for using mineral spirits for cleaning track (prior to any other coatings).

I picked some up the other day while in Walmart. When I went to use for cleaning something else it came out in a milky white color.

Is that really mineral spirits? I read the label and it appears to be one of those new fangled mixtures to protect ourselves.

Does anyone know if it is as effective as the old stuff??

Dead Pine needles?

I have finally made some pine and fir trees.  I would like to have some realistic groundcover underneath the pine trees.  I used dark green fine foam for the Scots Pines and used 7mm static grass (eventually painted brown with dark green foam added) as with needles.

Can I dye the static grass dark reddish brown etc?

Adjustable shelf brackets for benchwork?

Hi all,

I noticed this material at Home Depot and thought it might have interesting applications for shelf benchwork. It looked like it might be particularly useful for double-decks and/or adding under-layout storage. Was curious - has anyone tried or have thoughts on this as a benchwork material? Do any potential drawbacks come to mind? (e.g. load bearing capacity and sagging?)
