Why, just when you need them
So, I am preparing for the upcoming convention and setting up for having some cars judged towards an AP cert. Two of the cars to be judged are two that you have all seem - the Bamboo Grove and the Camellia from the City of Miami.
So, I go to remove the interior of the Carmellia the car and two of the walls come loose! While I am reattaching them, the nurse comes loose....
Murphy's law or what?
I got it glued back together and now the interior is in a clear plastic case (from Cotswolds Collectibles - it's a GIJOE storage case).

3-D Explained
I have to admit that I am totally un-informed as to what 3D Printing is all about. Is there an in-depth explanation out there or here at MRH that explains it? Is it paper? How do you get a plastic shell or building or something from a 3D print? Where does the design come from?
As you can see, what I'm looking for is a step-by-step explanation. I'd like to take advantage of new technology; however, I'm one of those guys that still struggles to remember what my Apple ID and password are on my iPhone. . . . .

Metra F40PHM-2 - The Results
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to share some photos with all of you of an N scale Metra F40PHM-2 that was built by a fellow modeler named Jeff King using one of my 3D printed shells from Shapeways. Jeff is a custom painter and his website is http://milwaukeeroadtrainshop.com.
Finding a power supply
Good evening to all,
Need some help in locating a source for a 5 Volt AC power supply in a one or two amp range I am not having too much luck locating one and could use some assistance. Any ideas?
Thanks

DCC for Vintage Steam
I have a Westside Southern Pacific MT 5 steam locomotive that has been upgraded to a can motor and constant lighting using a diode bridge across the motor leads. This powers a 1.5v bulb mounted in the headlight with an MV lens. It looks and works great.
I would like to add a DCC controller with sound, specifically a Tsunami heavy steam 1 amp unit. There is plenty of room in the tender for the decoder and a speaker. I would like to reduce the number of wires between the engine and tender.

Locomotive Erection Shop
ell I've had a hankering to do a structure. Getting a little burned out on modeling motive power. Since I'm building the twin critters, but not building an On30 layout, I thought a diorama in O scale 2 1/2' gauge would be nice. Besides I need some place to photograph the finished models, plus I'd like to be able to eventually take them to local train shows. So right now I'm experimenting.

HO Walthers Roundhouse "modern" vs. "regular"
The fact that I intend to have some type of turntable on my new layout has me looking at loco storage. I had thought I would go with some type of two stall engine house but a roundhouse may be in the cards. Looking at the Walthers offerings I see they have two, a roundhouse and a "modern" roundhouse. Any one know the era timeframe for each of these? Obviously the modern roundhouse is more um...."modern" but I wonder what time frame it would have been built vs. the other roundhouse they offer. Very curious about this.
Safety Information on Locomotives
Howdy MRH forums!
I am attempting my first custom detailed locomotive build and have hit a wall. On the sides of modern day locomotives there are several information plaques and tags i.e. fire extinguisher inside, caution high voltage, etc. However I cannot find a common placement guide or what is required by the FRA. I have compared UP, CSX, NS, BNSF, and several shortlines. All of them are different, and some appear to not have any! The locomotive is a GP38-2 for my freelance railroad.
Can anyone provide any insight?
