Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Bachmann N Scale Spectrum Acela Set, Amtrak
Hi,
the Bachmann N Scale Spectrum Acela Set, Amtrak, is on sale. It look to me like a good opportunity to increase my American stock next time I come to the states (which will be rather soon). It looks really nice and would be a good counter part to my German ICE. I only found one review and the editor wrote something about little power problems.
Does anybody have this set (in N)? How is it running? Can you recommend it?

Looking for tips and ideas on weathering a box car
I just bought this car ay my local hobby shop:
Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. I'd really like to keep it yellow, or at least MKT (reminds me of my grandmother, who always had a special place for the RR that ran past the farm she grew up on), but it's too yellow right now.
Must have a battery in the tender, This thing still runs over bad track.
If only HO ran so well, Proto 87?

HO Rivarossi C 420 shell replacement!
I recently acquired a Rivarossi C 420 that is in need of a shell. Are there any replacements available or are there any substitutes that can be used? The drive system is in good shape and runs very smooth but the cab took a beating during shipping and is now in several small pieces! This was one of the models made in 1994 according to the paperwork that came with it. (written in Italian of course!!!)
On30 Scratchbuilt Critter
After I finished the Hustler drive I came a cross a British web site that used friction drives for very small engines. I figured I'd give it a try and these are the results. After I had finished the drive and proved to myself that it would work I was unsure if I wanted to add a super structure to it. But after running a cross several prototype pictures of such small engines I decided to build a superstructure on the frame. Here are the results.
The prototype:

For Canadian modelers and those wishing they were.
Prototype Model Industries is going to produce an MLW RS23 and a MLW S13. A CP RS23 in maroon and gray with block lettering, I'm drooling.
Athearn Genesis SD70 Truck Problem
Has anyone had any issues with Athearn 3 axle trucks where one wheel on the front of the truck does not contact the railhead, acts like something is twisted. I have had the trucks apart several times and the wheels are in gauge and same size (measured with caliper). When the truck is put on the track one wheel on one side is just off the railhead.
Advise on Repairing (new) Walthers Proto 2000 USRA 0-6-0 Side Rods
I have recently started running this new loco on the BQR and have been impressed by how well it handled turnouts and problematic frogs. Unlike my older 0-8-0 from the same series that was very picky about power, this one has been very well behaved. The key design change appears to be that the 0-6-0 has power pickups on the tender rather than the loco.
Car storage - keep the boxes, or not?
As I build more kits to increase my fleet of rolling stock, I am left with a question. What do I do with the boxes the kits came in? My first thought was to toss them, since the cars will be stored on the layout or (eventually) in storage drawers. But something in the back of my mind is saying that's a bad idea, even if I can't figure out exactly why.
