Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Cleaning up a motor (which should never have been dirty in the first place)
I'll never learn. I should have known better than to assume I would not need a spare motor, just because it's too small. I should have taken better care of it. I didn't.
Powering a Dummy Locomotive
Hey Everyone!
I did a bit of a search and couldn't find much on this (i could find details on pulling a motor out and making a dummy though)
I picked up an old Athearn F7 dummy - I know it's probably not economically viable to power one of these, but is there really that much involved?
If i can get a motor on the cheap, and frame i assume the powered stuff will just swap over?
any info appreciated!
thanks in advance

The TFRR gets new motive power! 2-6-0 Mogul #74
This blog will be slower than my previous two construction blogs, that of the Tyco/Mantua Pacific conversion to a Southern Railway Ps-4, and the conversion of an MDC/Roundhouse 2-8-0 Consolidation into Tallullah Falls Railroad #78. This is because I am very busy with work, and have a lot less time available. Also because this will be my first DCC locomotive: in fact, #78 will also be converted to DCC operation.

The MFTR's New Motive Power
The MFTR is proud to announce the purchase of new motive power for our little railroad. Former Burlington Northern GP15-1 #1391 (soon to be patched to reflect new ownership) can now be seen making daily runs between the towns of Newp
Bachmann Spectrum
I have a couple of the older Bachmann Spectrum D8-40C's. They only get used occasionally but when the engines are ran over the layout, the performance is less than satisfactory! At first, I thought it was a dirty wheel issue. After inspecting the wheels and track, I found that everything was spotless and nothing was binding in the drivetrain. The motors and drivetrain sound smooth but the engines still run poorly, with al lot of jerking and stalling.
Locos - PK2 SD50 problem - Little help, Please?
Guys & Gals -
I have a bit of a problem. I picked up a new, in the box, Lifelike Proto 2000 D&RGW SD50 last week at a local (2 hours away) hobby shop. We ran it on the test track and it did fine at slow speed. We couldn't test it out good because his small layout was full of engines and cars for customers to check out.
I need your advice
I am attempting to do some weathering to some old box cars. Yes, I am struggling. I have read Kevin Klettke's PDF presentation over and over and it is wonderful. I have learned so much, thanks, Kevin.
I need your advice to help me get better. Please critic the attached picture and be brutal. I learn greatly from my mistakes and your advice.

Weathering a Katy boxcar
Okay, it's nothing special, but this is what I'm working on this morning. I bought one of the new MKT outside braced box cars from Athearn/Roundhouse yesterday, and I really like the Sloan Yellow paint scheme. I found out it's not quite prototypical for my era (I model ca. 1940, Sloan paint came in in '47 or so), but I like the way it stands out against my brown rolling stock.
The trouble is, the car is not yellow, it's YELLOW!!
