Jameco electronics has a stock of DC motors. Some of these motors may be suitable for switch machines or locomotive re-power projects. The motors have specification sheets available. Most of the motors are normally stocked, so repeat purchases are possible. They are reasonably priced.

I have used this distributor for a number of years and have found them to be reliable. My friend has used some of their motors to re-power a few steam engines. We have found that the suitability of the motors varies. We usually buy one or more and test them before he uses them.

There seems to be no end of giant grain hoppers available from the '60s and later.  But as a transition era modeler with a strong bias toward steam power, I need pre-1955 covered hoppers for dry sand and cement service  -  such as the earliest PS-2 2600 cu ft cars.  Some gray colored, either undecorated or (preferably) data only (oh, please, Accurail!), some in mid-western or southern roads from 1954 or before. 

Athearn introduced it's new Genesis locomotive at the Amherst Railway Club's huge show in West Springfield, MA.

A GP38-2, it includes railroad specific details, including wide and narrow spaced radiator fans, a Canadian National Safety Cab, oil bath filter, split radiator grills, ditch lights (CN), snow shields on the air intakes, and different blower sizes. 

The first four models are Southern Pacific (L-window), MoPac, CN (Safety cab), and Southern (High Hood). 

Delivery is expected in late 2012, price was not specified.
