Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Newly Painted RS-1's
To All: I painted. lettered, weathered and dullcoated an RS-1 in the Illinois Terminal RR green & yellow scheme and painted and lettered an RS-1 in the Chicago & Eastern Illinois RR blue & orange scheme, this week for use on the E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout. On the C&EI loco I need to find or make the logo that goes on the cab. Check out the attached photos.
Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group
PS: Excuse the color renditions as I did not correct for color. The C&EI unit looks yellow bit it is orange!
Roundhouse Loco won't run in reverse (DC)
I have a near-new Roundhouse 4-4-0 ... has DCC on board but I am using DC only. It has recently refused to run in reverse. Anyone else have this problem, or got an idea why?
Thanks, Skip Luke
Anything new with the prototype?. . .
It seems like (at least to me) we have entered a very uninteresting time of railroading. What I mean is this; here in Southern California, most "real"/prototype trains consist of several GE units with the occasional EMD unit up front, followed by a long string of cars and cars of intermodal double stacks with the occasional DPU unit at the end. That's about it. Main lines are slowly being converted to concrete ties (a good thing) and the old target signals are being replaced with the new "traffic signal" style (3 light) signals.
Need the Proper Paint Scheme for a CPR Box Car in 1955
The amount of knowledge floating around in these chat rooms is astonishing! Can someone tell me what paint/lettering scheme Canadian Pacific was using on their 40' Boxcars in 1955 and before? I've got a couple of undecorated 40' steel cars and I want to make sure I use the right colour and lettering.
I know the CP Pacman was later - but what was being used? The three words stacked in block letters? The Script lettering? And should I be using an Oxide Red or a Tuscan Red?
Help to open a brass tender

today I come back home with the idea to finally fit a Tsunami 750 inside my two N scale brass Mikes but.... surprise !
I've done some other brass in the past, but it's the first time I found the tender nearly sealed!
SO... here's my problem:
DCC, tiny 603 LEDs for headlights, and explorations in Mancos CO
Another blog post - this detailing my weekend's efforts in updating a brass steamer to DCC and adding my first 603 LED in the headlight. And, some discoveries in Mancos CO.

Yet another steam engine thread
On a trip this weekend to visit the wife's relatives in Lancsater, Pa. we stopped at a flea market on the way home in Lewisburg, Pa. While going through all the valuable treasures I came across a vendor that had one brass engine setting on the shelf. I asked the price, $200. I though boy talk about a bargain. This engine is a Key Import Milwaukee 4-6-4. So home it came with me. I'm not a rail fan of the Milwaukee road but I am a fan of cheap brass.
The engine:

Stan has been behind our project from day one, currently he's got an injured back and is out of work but he is gratefully plying away at this build to help us promote the work we've been doing.

Athearn diesel railings
Does anyone have any ideas on replacing the handrails on Athearnd diesels?: They look great but are very friable and do not hold up well.
