Prototype Railroading

Elk Grove Village IL - Rail Service
Thought some might be interested in the rail layout here in Elk Grove Village. This is the home of the nation's largest industrial park and it is serviced by CP Rail/Soo from the Bensenville Yard, former Milwaukee Rd. It is interesting to note that only one runaround is available in this complex! Primary cars spotted here seem to be tank cars! This industrial park owes part of its value to its location next to O'Hare Airport.

Amtrak Mail & Express (Particularly Terminals and Switching)
I was spitballing some off-the-wall ideas for switching layouts, and photos of Amtrak trains in the 90's with mail and express cars really got me thinking. Not so much about modeling one of Amtrak's long distance trains highballing through on the mainline, but about the switching involved with those mail and express cars.

Paint schemes for St Louis Refrigerator Car Company from 1940 to 1970
I have found pictures of SLRX cars up to 1951 with a red stripe on the bottom of the car. Was the red stripe removed in the late 50s? I have a Walther's steel body car painted white with brown roof and ends but no stripe.
Union Pacific 4014 and 844 - The Race to Ogden 2019 - Sherman Hill - Laramie Advice
A little outside of modeling discussion but I saw that the UP schedule for 844 and The Big Boy has been released for their trip to the Golden Spike ceremonies this April/May in Utah! This includes a double header on the return!

Algoma Central / VIA Rail / Agawa Canyon
Well,
It seems that my wife loves me very much! She says we can go ride the Agawa Canyon train this summer. There are mixed reviews about the train ride but generally, people seem to think it is worth it.
Placing salt on the tracks is a capital crime!
Just thought I would post this one to make you go hmmmmmm
DIFCO
While vacationing in Minnesota, I spotted a string of DIFCO side dump cars in the Proctor yard. Some time later, I bought a bunch of the Walther's models. Now that I'm finally building a layout, I realize that I don't have a clue about how these cars are used! Can anybody educate me?
Ultimate North American Train Vacation
This is the second of two related topics.
In the first I am considering a trip to Italy and England and wondered about any train related stops.
In this topic I am looking at alternatives to a Eurpean trip. Basically what can we do in the US.
If you had three to Four Weeks to travel around the US (and I suppose Canada) and a budget that would cover a typical Eurpean Vacation (say 6 to 10 grand give or take a bit) and you were planing on traveling with a fellow train guy what would you do?
Tourist trains in Italy and England
This is one of two related topics.
I am in the beginning of planning a trip to Europe with my father (also a train guy) that will tentatively see us visit Paris, Italy (mostly the western side from Rome North) and spending time traveling around England.
the Question is other then the Museum in York is thier any “must see” train locations in these areas?
Thanks for any suggestions -Doug M
Oof! our disruptions are caused by tripping on the power cord.
Oof!
But Amtrak isn't quite that simple. The ultimate OP session disruption.
