Dream and design

Perseverance

I often strongly urge people to do their own research.  To keep poking around on the internet.

In a previous thread on the redesign of my yard I had mentioned that I didn't know what the P&R depot at Wilmington looked like because the Bernhardt book on P&R stations has pictures of two different buildings identified as the P&R depot at Wilmington.

While looking for someother information I was rummaging around in the Hagley Library digitail archives:

They have all sorts of industrial galleries.

Yard Redesign

I have a stub ended switching yard at the Wilmington, DE, terminus of my model railroad.  It is a compressed version of the P&R/RDG yards.  The era is 1900-1905.  The yard currently has a main track with a runner next to it, one double ended track and 4 stub ended tracks.  To increase flexibility, I would like to convert a stub ended track to an additional double ended track.  There are several options I have come up with in varying degrees of complexity.  I have my own ideas and have solicited some from various people, I thought I would throw out severa

Pine Hill - a classification yard

I have a rather big Classification Yard given to me some time ago and now I am about to decorate this masterpiece but I do not know what to put on it in terms of buildings, roads etc.

Please take a look, provide some ideas and/or show some samples from other layouts or real life,

Its a module in FREMO AmericaN standard in N-scale. It is in five sections 1m (~39 inches) long each consequently 5m (197 inches) long and max 0,45m (14,6 inches) wide.

Enclosed is a sketch.

Edit: Now a better version made in AnyRail.

H0n3 plan

Hi all

An American Garratt

I have these two USRA 0-6-0's sitting around waiting for a project. It's always dangerous when I have models without a specific project in mind.  Add to that time spent in a hotel room, waiting to be called for a train, and well..

This is what happens.  I kind of like it, actually.  I tried to make it so that it would (just) fit on an Atlas 9" turntable, in case I ever actually build this little beastie.

Can a pile trestle bridge be used for a Coal Branchline circa 1953?

I would like to include some wood trestle bridges on the layout, however, I would think by the 1950s most of the wood bridges would have been replaced by steel because of the increased loads of the cars and locomotives, or is this incorrect?  The branchline will have 55 and 70 ton hoppers, as well as 2-6-6-2 and 2-6-6-6 mallet's.

Thanks.

New To Zed - To build the preverbial Coffee Table Layout

A strange thing happened to me at the Edmonton Train Show last month - my dearly beloved who was with me that day bought a Zed Scale collection of track, trains & transformer.  Some poor chap had collected this stuff and had planned on playing with it in his retirement - well that never happened.  Somehow that is sad to me.  Anyway we now have his collection and my wife wants a coffee table layout.  She's always wanted a coffee table layout and now is the time.

A new toy for Benny

I just saw this. Benny will want one to help with layout construction. Imagine much smaller ones doing layout maintenance! cheeky

Location To Model

Hi Everyone.

After years of wishing I had the room for a model railroad, I have finally gotten a spare bedroom which is 12'10" x 10'6". I think so far I have decided to go with N Scale and DCC power, with an around the walls layout and an island in the middle, also there is a closet in one corner of the room which is 6'3" x 4'8" which i was going to use for staging.

Track plan for 12'9" x 14" in HO?

Hi,

I've found some space in our apartment for a switching-style shelf layout. This will be my first layout and quite possibly a chainsaw -- we'll see how it turns out!
