My latest plan revision. Let me know what you think.

Ok, I've taken a lot of input from you guys and you've really helped me along. I've incorporated a lot of what you have provided. I've also decided to take the layout in a little different direction for now. So here's where I'm at and would like to hear your thoughts.

N/O Photocells for Train Detection

So the plan is to build a helix which may span two rooms: a non load bearing wall will be installed to separate the train room from the rest of the basement; however, to conserve ~10 sq. ft. of space, I've decided that about half the helix will lie within the train room while the other half will cross into the rest of the basement and be finished off (with viewing windows) to "blend in".

Please critique my plan N scale.

Ok I'm back with a new rev. I've taken into account what you guys have said. I have also taken a look at the maps I have of the towns to follow them as close as I can. My biggest/hardest challenge is the yard area. Maybe you guys can give me some input on how to make it functional.

? about yard/servicing designs.

Ok I'm working on my yard design for my new layout. I'm modeling a transition era so I'm running both Steam and diesel. I've got a couple of design's I'm working with and have a few questions. I have a turntable and roundhouse that will be a main focal point.

Here are my two designs and looking for some input.

small layout desing - round one

Hi guys, if I can get the plan to upload, I'd like some feedback on my preliminary layout design.

It's HO scale, and has to fit into a small space - in this case a 6'x9' shed. One wall is concrete block, the others are timber with 12mm particle board lining.

Realising that unless I switch to N scale (which I don't really want to do) there's no way I'm going to get in a long mainline run, so some switching is going to be the order of the day.

yard design

Does anybody have a good ideas for a yard design? what i am attempting to design is a small modern era regional type yard with a small engine service area. The givens are: 3-4 classification tracks (most train are through), separate arrival/departure tracks (at least two), and an area to park some spare locomotives.

Looking for input. Rev 2 of my N scale KATY and T&P in Texas

Ok I've taken in what you guys have said. I've done soem redesign on the lower level and am now looking for more input to see if I'm onthe right track. So let me see if i can explain what is in the drawing so that it is clear as mud. Grid lines are 12". Era is around  1930/40 ish. The main focus is the Missouri, Kansas, Texas (KATY) line running N/S and the Texas & Pacific running E/W centered on Fort Worth, Texas. There will be an occasional "visit" by the FRISCO from time to time. I'll be running both Steam and Desiel.

New Layout Design - Brooklyn Terminal RR - Looking for feedback

Hi All,

Attached is a draft plan for my new shelf layout which is a freelanced road based on the Brooklyn terminal railroads and a car float operation in the 1980's.

I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions based on this initial draft plan.
