Tightest practical radius for HOn30?
Tearing down my layout might have been a mistake! I'm starting to daydream too much..
Does anybody know what the tightest practical curve radius would be for HOn30? Equipment could (would) be built to suit the track, and I'm assuming short 4 wheel locomotives and cars. The common N scale 0-4-0 seems like a suitable mechanism to work with, so perhaps that would be a good place to start.
Shelf Layout for the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville
I am working at designing and building a shelf layout around the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville RR located near Rochester, NY.
This is my first attempt at designing a model RR so I would appreciate comments.
I'll post a track plan and further info in a follow-up post.

Two turn outs back to back - is it reliable?
Hello MRH Community.
I have lurked here for a while but am now designing a small layout and ran into a question on the reliability of a particular track configuration.
If I put two turn outs back to back, can a train be reliably pushed through the two curves? I am concerned I have created an S-bend that will give me trouble
I am looking at #6 turnouts and 60 ft cars.
A picture of what I mean is attached.
Thanks.
Glenn

What do you think of this layout plan?
Lower Level Staging - Bottom left goes up helix to second level, trains from East originate here. Two tracks in right circle are trains from West which lead to first level.

Keep Scenic Areas or eliminate them in favor of end of Staging Yard access.
Am I fighting a loosing battle??
My son and I are looking to setup our first permanent layout, and as of a few weeks ago, I was reasonably sure we'd be going N scale... Fast-forward a few weeks and a couple layout visits, and we both would prefer HO scale now... I originally was looking at N due to our limited space, basically half a bed room, and I didn't think HO would fit...
How high between staging and rest of the layout?
How high is ideal between staging and the rest of the layout? Obviously it has to be high enough to allow one to comfortably get their hands into staging, but what is good? I use 1 x 4s for the benchwork. The top of the benchwork is 42", which is good for me because I'm short. Still, 34"-36" seems a bit low. (As far as I know, I will be the only person operating since there are no other modelers close by.)

Alone on a big layout?
I find myself daydreaming about The Great Layout recently. You know the one. Giant space, no physical or financial limitations, modeling an entire railroad, room for a whole model railroad club, the works. I have a feeling that if I really want it, I could eventually have it.
"Silverton & Telluride" with a Pacific prototype? Has anyone run a Blackstone locomotive?
A previous thread on adapting the "San Juan Central" to a pacific coast theme got cluttered with a discussion about MF vs TK, so let's start over with a slightly different premise:
