Dream and design
Getting serious about planning my layout...help wanted...please....
I am about to start serious track planning for my railroad, and am seeking any and all input and advice. I cut this post down, and put the body of the post in a subsequent post, to hopefully make things easier.
Industries for Northern Maine--seeking ideas...
I have started serious planning for my North Central Railroad, running in Northern Maine in the 1920’s.
I am looking for a few industries for 1920’s northern Maine, not right on the coast. I have limited space, so I want only a couple of them. At one (or more) of them, some raw materials arrive on the North Central, a 2 foot gauge line. I h0pe to have a variety of different cars in use. Hoppers, of course, are easy to justify; some factories use coal in abundance.
Anyone used SCARM?
I recently downloaded a Railroad CAD program called S C A R M and was planing to utilize it to scetch up some N-Scale track plans for my 10'x10' Office/Bedroom. Has anyone else used it and is it useful at all?
Self stick flooring material
I need some advice from forum members. I am at that point where I would like to cover the bare concrete floor in my basement layout room with some type of flooring for operators comfort. I have been researching some peel and stick material at Home Depot that is affordable and within my skill set to install. I had sealed the floor with concrete paint many years ago to keep down the dust. I have a nice smooth surface to apply the tiles. My thinking is to apply them only in the isle areas.

Basic description

The Timberman trade magazine
Bumped into some interesting things today. These are from The Timberman trade magazine, October 1915. Thought I would share with everyone here, lots of neat things in this magazine.
Thinking about getting a new Shay Locomotive? They have them in stock at Hofius Steel & Equipment Co. !
How about a new fangled gasoline powered railcar made by Hofius to transport the work crews?

Fun-themed layout/module
I was looking back through some older threads and a couple of topics ran together in my head and triggered an intriguing idea. Gabe and his son are doing a movie theme layout. We also had some fun with cute names for railroads and places.
All of which made me think about a possible module (not sure I'd want to do a whole layout) lifted from the comic pages. I've always been a Walt Kelly fan, so maybe visit with Pogo and all the gang down in the Okeefenokee would be fun. Or maybe a trip through Dogpatch with L'il Abner, Daisy Mae and the rest of the Yokum clan.
Layout work in progress
Hi All
Been working on the railroad ....duh... and have come up with a design to submit. It is not complete, but I have the main line to where it looks good.
Layout is housed in a 31' x 39' pole barn. My operational wants: signaling and operation as much as I can. Era is 70's to now. Sure, pretty broad in nature but it IS mine.
Main 36' radius.
Branch down to 24' radius in spots.
Less than 2% grade everywhere.
CSX Big Flat Subdivision
I have lived in the Gettysburg, PA area all my life, so my modeling preferences follow as so. Growing up, we lived about 300 yards from the Chessie System (former Western Maryland Dutch Line). I had a large rock, about the size of a small sedan, I would race to when I heard a train approach. Traffic along the line is numerous boxcars and covered hoppers with a few tankers and centerbeam cars thrown in as well. The line also has 3 interchanges, one at Highfield (Maryland Midland), Gettysburg (Gettysburg Railroad), and a third at Porters Siding (YorkRail).
