Town Plan for Critique
Does this plan for a paper mill town on the bottom side of the peninsula appear well laid out with enough room for switching that won't foul the main or passing siding?
It's revision 7 of a plan for the area. the wharehouse sits over top of a 1 lap helix to gain elevation and space out the scene from the riverbank and bridge scene on the other side of the peninsula so the tail of the train is not still in the previous scene.
Street Car Lines
I'm working on a downtown scene for our club layout and would like to have a street car line included in the scene. It has been suggested that I use a silver tape to represent the rails of the street car line; this seems quite lame. I would like to have actual rails imbedded in the street pavement (will be made of styrene). I seem to have seen a system for accomplishing this and to make the street car line operational as well. Does anyone have suggestions?

What car numbering system should I use, if any ?
I tried Googling for car roadnumber systems but couldn't dig up much info, the use of the numbers i.e operation is explained in great detail, but the system of assigning a number to a particular car or coach isn't mentioned.
I got about 250+ cars, the usual mix of boxcars, tankers, gondolas etc, Would a class system be something ?
Something like this:

Easy software for drawing a logo ?
I'm getting an order ready for the decal printers, and want to add a logo for the F&B RR.
Tried streching / forming letters etc with Word but couldn't do it, could be me or the software ...
I do hope there's easy to use software which allows me to type in a text and form it into an oval or circle, a bit like this:
cheers, Leo
Layout room/Building that looks like a Train Station
Ok railheads, I need you all to go back in your collective memories. After a recent lull in layout design and my daughter deciding that she now wants to move into the basement for more privacy ( I guess thats what 14 year olds want), I have decided to build a separate building for the layout. It will be approx 22' x 32'. I am thinking I may make it look like a train station.
Track plan assistance
Quite honestly, I thought I had the problem licked. Unfortunately, I forgot about the light in the middle of the space. It has to be open to allow for bulb changes. This is a rental home, or I'd simply have an electrician come in and move the light. I have finally given up trying to design this layout, I admit, I'm licked.
Dream design
I am hoping to build an HO shelf layout am somewhat confused from an operational standpoint and cost about what code track to use. I currently have a layout that utilizes code 83. I am very happy with the Atlas products I used. I have accumulated a fair supply of code 100, code 83 and some code 70. A current magazine article indicated the use of 83 on mains and passing sidings, 70 in the yards and 55 for spurs.
Question #1 is why or why not go 100/83/70 vs 83/70/55.

Just when you thought it was safe to buy the CFL's....
Here comes someone who's managed to make electroluminescent lights into something that might actually be useful for illumination:

Plain sky or add mountains to the backdrop for a shelf layout?
I finally got that 'pesky backdrop' up and I like what I have. The sky color is (IMO) pretty much perfect, it makes the rest of the scenery jump out and gives the illusion of distance. Still, I'm debating whether to add mountains. I'm not particularly talented as an artist. This is an example of what I have so far.
