Further Progress

It has been just a few months without an update. I am still working on the rural side of this 4X6 layout. This is a shot of the cliff, stream and tunnel entrance.

End Ladders

Hello Everyone.

Detroit Terminal - The Belt Line Industrial Track

I just posted my final entry in a series of blog posts about the Detroit Terminal Railroad and my plans to model a modern-day, proto-freelanced version. Please check it out at http://detroitterminal.blogspot.com/, and feel free to let me know what you think.

After nearly a year of research - due mainly to the pesky intrusions of real life - I'm ready to start turning all this information into an actual model railroad. I'll continue to update my blog to show my progress, so stay tuned!

HH&J Logging Update # 5

HH&J Logging peninsula is a switch back logging with a Shay and a Climax steam engines.

My theory is a modern day company has a Shay and a Climax steam engines and is logging this mountain and brings the logs to the saw mill and/or the interchange yard. From the interchange yard a local train will come and pickup the loads and bring them to a yard for classification to parts of the layout and staging.

The base level will be around 40" off the floor and camp #7 will be around 60" off the floor.

Here is the track plan for the logging peninsula.

Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad: The End

The Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad has been dismantled. I've been fighting this decision for many, many weeks but in the end I had no real choice. N scale is becoming to small for me at my age and my wife told me from the beginning that it was foolish to try to fill that big new building with a N scale layout that had 10 towns and needed something like 500 to 600 buildings. So after a year or so of me being stubborn I came to agree with her.

I'm in the process of starting a new HO layout of which the first pictures will be available around Christmas time.

The next board gets attached

As you can see, I have fitted the previous board to the new one. There is a discrepancy of height between them. The new addition is set higher than the main board as there will be two levels on the track and by starting in the middle, I can make the resulting grades less than if I had everything starting at the lower level. The existing off scene staging is a board 3' x 8". This will be added along the front of the main board. This will give me a proper end to end option rather than an out-and-back style.
