Leo Landers
I'm sad to announce that my friend Leo Landers passed away last Monday. Leo was survived by his wife Barb and a plethora of children.
If you worked for the SP&S in the 40's thru the 80's you might have met Leo as he held jobs starting from car knocker to road engineer. While working as a motive power hostler Leo had the opportunity to drive the SP&S 700 (4-8-4), one of the two Northern class locos still operating out of Portland Oregon (the other is the SP 4449).
Photosynth Cab View Big Boy Locomotive - Embedded for easy viewing
Hi Guys,
On my recent "Old West Tour" I visited the Forney Transportation museum in Denver,Colorado. I took several shots of the cab interior Union Pacific 4005 with intent to create a "panoramic view" here it is for your enjoyment. Merry Christmas!

To the 1:1 scale railroaders out there..
I'm just curious...
We seem to have quite a few railroaders here on MRH, and that got me thinking. I've been with NS for 15 years now, and I've noticed two related items:
Layout photos
I've attached a few mobile phone photos of my in-progress 25x25 freelanced dogbone layout, inspired by the New York Central Railroad as it existed in the Mid-Hudson Valley in the late 1940's and early 1950's. I hope to have a "rough draft" completed by spring, then will begin detailing and adding a helix to a lower-level staging yard.
Track Work, Geometry Class
Man, I am glad I took geometry!
This is a snippet of the track planning guide for Marklin C-track. I really like this track and the geometry constraints may limit design, but hey, it also limits design! Meaning, less time to deliberate, as I am very indecisive!
Helium Building
Here is a helium storage building built out of 2 AHM helium cars. Pretty simple to build.
Now I've Done It...
I recently emailed the people who run a local model railroad show every March and asked them if they'd be interested in me exhibiting an O scale switching layout at their show. Today, they emailed back and said, "yes." Now I'm committed!
This will be my first time exhibiting a layout; I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
