Montana Rail Link

Hi all.

So I have been a bit quiet, because I had a hard time at work the last months (I work in a model train shop in Lisbon, and Christmas is that time of the year that we have a looot of costumers to please...)

Nevertheless, I am building a small display layout, in N scale (as stated in previous blog entries), with MRL rolling stock. I asked my father to help me on building a show case.

Well, that just happened... The show is almost completed, and them I can take it back to my place, and start working on the scenery.

SASME's New T&SW Layout

Some have asked why SASME tore down such a nice layout back in this thread here:

I thought I might provide some updates that show where the club is headed.

Benchwork Progress

After a short stint in the hospital for a bout of pneumonia, I have managed to get some more work done on the layout reconstruction.

OP Session on the BNML - January 16, 2016

Another OP Session was held on the BNML this weekend.

Rico, Ian, and Ian's father 'Zee' all made the trek south in the bitter cold to spend a day working my layout, and a day they did spend!

Shift start was scheduled for 1pm. Rico was running a little late, but called ahead to stake his claim on the BNSF job in Noyes. Ian and Zee arrived on time and after a short tour for Zee they were set loose on CN 532, which was waiting for them in Morris.

Step-by-step: hand-laying track on a truss bridge

Having very limited experience in hand laying track, I was concerned about getting it right on a Howe truss bridge (180' HO from Hunterline). I sought the advice from forum members in this thread and did some other research as well.  The following is the end result.

The photos illustrating the process follow in the next post.

Minot, North Dakota GN-BN-BNSF pt.4 Post 2

Sometime in early 1988, I mentioned to my wife, that I used to have trains. That Christmas one of my gifts was of course, a Bachmann train set. I can't fault her in anyway on that purchase, as she just didn't know any better then. Nor did I for that matter. The set came with the 0-6-0 switcher with a slope back tender, with the typical rubber traction tire affair, on the rear set of drivers ,which used to be marked for the Union Pacific. Oddly enough it still runs, even after being in a non-climate controlled storage building from 1995 to 2009.
