My new Layout in my new House

Hi all;

For those who do not know.  I have been in a wheelchair for 30+ years after a work accident.  Since then I had a stroke in 2007 so have no balance.  Combined with a heart condition I absolutely can not do crawling around.

Dismantling and rebuilding ebb and flow (Siskiyou Line 1 teardown, TOMA build)

I'm continuing to dismantle my old Siskiyou Line 1 and exploring how to build the new Siskiyou Line 2 TOMA modules. There were some questions around all this on another thread, so rather than pull that thread off-topic, I've moved those discussions here.

Bay Area Prototype Modelers 2019

Pacific Coast Region of National Model Railroad Association, an MRH advertiser, was pleased to co-sponsor Bay Area Prototype Modelers 2019 yesterday. This is an annual event usually held in Richmond, California.

Sliding into Prototype Modeling

I have found myself slowly and inexorably drifting into prototype modeling.  Long ago, I decided to model my locomotives with prototype fidelity, and make sure my other rolling stock was generally correct.  But I hadn't extended this to the layout itself until recently.

Modeling Trees

Good morning everyone.  I have recently been experimenting with different ways to make trees.

My goal is for them to look realistic and be economical.  I wanted to share my first results/experiments and ask for some feedback.

I've been examining 1:1 trees and honestly they look really ugly - nothing at like the prefect symmetric pictures you have in your minds eye.  But bunch them together, and they start to look like a forest.  With that in mind, I'm pretty happy with my results.

Shipper-driven Traffic Simulator "How to" videos now available

Version 3 of the Shipper-driven Traffic Simulator (STS) has been available for a while, but I just finished some "How-to" videos that will help with the database set up process and using STS during an operating session. There are seven videos in all. So far.

JMRI

Hi.

Found your  site when I was researching track automation, specifically JMRI.

Have just started reading the article from Oct last year and already it has answered questions I had.

Seems to be very clear and detailed. Looking forward to completing the series.

Your magazine is excellent. I subscribe to a British magazine, but feel that yours is superior.

Creating RR Paperwork part 2

Wow has it really been 3+ years since my last blog entry?!   Sorry about that.   The reality is I kinda lost my modeling mojo along with "life" getting in the way.  The LAJ still exists though!  :)

I've settled on my modern waybill template (simulating a simplified computer print out of the waybill), so thought I share some examples.

The format for the bill is (top to bottom):

-Originating railroad who created the bill with the ACI code (readily available via ORER's, etc)
