VSOTTO

Good morning everyone.  I have recently been experimenting with different ways to make trees.

My goal is for them to look realistic and be economical.  I wanted to share my first results/experiments and ask for some feedback.

I've been examining 1:1 trees and honestly they look really ugly - nothing at like the prefect symmetric pictures you have in your minds eye.  But bunch them together, and they start to look like a forest.  With that in mind, I'm pretty happy with my results.

So, what do ya think?  Would you use these on your layout?

Also, if there's interest, I can show a how-to photos as well.

I'm not ready yet for scenery

I'm not ready yet for scenery but it would be nice to know how you made these. They do look good.

Goldenrod weeds

I like goldenrod weeds, they have an irregular form I like.  The thing that stands out on your trees are the very regular branch structure.  On the other hand I'm modeling deciduous trees and you might be doing conifers that have a more regular branch structure.  I like the open lacy look of your trees.

Go for it

I am always looking for new ways to make trees. I make my own wire armature trees as I wanted trees to stand above the trains. I use a method similar to Luke Towen methods but am open to other ways. Of the 291 trees so far on the layout 245 are self made.

So go for it, put your method out here.

Yes, please

Just starting doing trees, looking for something cheap, easy, and good looking.  Especially conifers.

Tree structures

Dave,  I intended these to represent pine trees, as there are many pine forests/groves near where I live.

I have also experimented using other things as the branch structure, including some golden rod.  Yours look great.

Conifers

Yes, I would be interested in learning what/how you're doing. The armatures you're using looks as if they could make convincing pine trees for the types of pines in the region I'll be modeling.

Thanks.

More info.

Yes, you are doing a fantastic job. Show more. Show on layout. Give more details on how you make them. I am a very long way from scenery, but will be needing trees. Very few. How about Mesquite?

Good open structure, trees

Good open structure, trees are mostly air, it all depends on the species...those would do well for some pines as is.
