Op session Jun 2019 - photos and commentary

See the blog post for lots of photos and commentary from the last operating session on the layout.  This was the 2nd in as many weeks, and we had a full 7-person crew.  It was also a test of some updated paperwork and scheduling.

The Hills Line - Filling Gaps

Spent the last few days finalizing track locations for The Hills Line as well as filling holes in the roadbed and fascia. Despite my best laid plans there was a fair amount of shimming needed for the roadbed to level out the ends of the foam sheets, as well as filling gaps between sheets and the fascia. DAP’s Flex Spackling and Wood Filler products do a great job and should hold up to the normal bumps and nudges that happen to our benchwork.

Learning from my mistakes - or downsizing from 10X14 to 8X10

With the impending move coming up, I've made the observation that most bedrooms are 10X10 or smaller. So after numerous tries, this is what I've come up with for an 8X10.

Before you look at it, here are the biggest mistakes I've made with this layout.

(1) Inadequate isle width. Not much I can do about this one without making the other mistakes again. All isles are 16" wide. Not enough to put the layout on the operating circuit, but wide enough that I could have two or three people over.

How I create pine trees

After the great support from my previous post, I finally got busy and created a new batch of pine trees.  Many people asked, so here is a photo journal of how I make them.

NNE Scenic V3 - Design Process

As announced in my NNE Scenic 2 Build blog thread, my imminent move back to NH where we will eventually retire amongst family and friends also has led to a decision to start fresh and return to HO scale after my 6 year detour into N scale.

This thread will chronicle my design process to come up with the design for the HO scale NNE Scenic V3.
