NNE Scenic V3 - Build
The NNE Scenic V3 is now starting the transition from the dream and design stage documented in my NNE Scenic V3 Design Process blog post into actual physical work beginning to occur. This blog thread will be the long term thread for the actual build out of the railroad.
N Scale - How old is too old?
I know the real answer to this is dependent entirely on personal health factors, but I want to ask opinions anyway.
NNE Scenic V3 - Design Process
As announced in my NNE Scenic 2 Build blog thread, my imminent move back to NH where we will eventually retire amongst family and friends also has led to a decision to start fresh and return to HO scale after my 6 year detour into N scale.
This thread will chronicle my design process to come up with the design for the HO scale NNE Scenic V3.
NNEScenic2 Build Blog
The build of the Northern New England Scenic Railroad version 2 has officially commenced. this new blog thread will document the build, which will probably go for many years. There is still some room prep going on that will stay in my planning thread. But all actual build will go here. I will start with a response showing the design again, to have it here in this thread for reference.
I look forward to the process and the wisdom and contributions others may make over the years to my build choices and progress.

Planning for the new Northern New England Scenic
The house isn't sold yet, a new one not yet bought, and I am spending a lot of time traveling from my soon to be former home in NH to my new office in Ohio. It will probably at least another couple months before I have really fully moved. But as moments allow, it is time for me to start planning the new layout. I will be using this post to chronicle the research and planning stage as I consider what "NNEScenic 2" will model, to learn and research modular techniques, to work through planning software choices, and to come up with a plan for the new layout.
End of the Line for the Northern New England Scenic
When my wife and I bought our current home, it was to be our "forever home". Already in my 50s with a great job in a great company, this is where we would live out our years until we no longer could keep up a home. With that in mind, and the bizarre geometry of the room, I didn't even think about building modular when I built the MEC and B&M Scenic Railroad - later renamed the Northern New England Scenic Model Railroad.
Layout Renamed - Northern New England Scenic Model Railroad
I have recently put together a website to more fully document my layout. In conjunction with doing so, I have renamed the former "MEC and B&M Scenic Railroad" to now be called the "Northern New England Scenic Model Railroad". I may refer to it as the NNES at times for brevity but that is not intended to be interpreted as a planned road marking. The layout still features Maine Central and B&M roads at this time.
North Conway NH Roundhouse -- What to do?
First off, this post is not meant in ANY way to be a criticism of any vendor. In fact I really like the vendors involved. The problem I need to solve is my own from my own lack of attention to what I was buying. I have asked this question on another site as well - and got one answer so far - very much appreciated - from a modeler I respect immensely, but I am looking for as much input as I can get before I make a final decision.
MEC & B&M Scenic Build Blog Continued
I will use this new posting for continuing my build thread. The prior start had lots of photos in the main entry before I knew better.

New Progress on the MEC & B&M Scenic
It has been almost 5 months since I have really even touched the railroad, and closer to 8 since doing any "scenicking" on this "scenic" railroad in progress. But this weekend I got back to it. The Dover, NH side is about as far along as I want to go until I have a static grass applicator, which I went ahead and ordered this weekend. I know most build their own but I don't trust my skills in that area and could afford the expenditure so I went with the GrassTech II.
