Repairing a Walthers-Shinohara Double Slip

My yard has four #6 double slips -- all bought at the same time through my LHS. When I was first laying track it was noticed that one of the switch rails had come loose from the metal sub-throwbar it was soldered to. Resoldered... end of story, I thought.

Then when chasing a persistant but intermittent short in the yard, I noticed that one of the switch-rails had come loose:

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Its open house season and here are some photos of night 1 of 3. ( two more to go).

Three layouts were open to the public on Dec. 10th, 2016.  The recently "completed" Horseshoe and Cottonwood Hon3 was shown for the first time as well as the soon to be dismantled Eastern California R.R., a modern era standard gauge layout.  Additionally a 3rd small garden railroad was shown running a New Bright Christmas Train.

Filling in the Blanks

While procrastinating over making repairs to the layout after a disastrous operating session in May, I decided to update some scenery and add some structures to areas that were mostly, well, blank.  Here are some quick shots of some of the work.

MTM: Ramon Rhodes, So Ramon, how do you win a model contest?

Now since I started in this hobby, I have been a wood model kinda guy. Plastic models are a whole different beast IMHO. So talking to Ramon Rhodes is a huge opportunity for me to learn some insights into a segment of the hobby, I know little about.

Yet this segment of the hobby is probably the most popular among the young. I think that If I am going to get a better grasp on the hobby I so enjoy, I need to learn what I am missing out on. Ramon is a true gentleman, and I was honored to enjoy this chat with him.

A scale 1 layout tour video on marine European style

Hi! I flew to Germany earlier this autumn to check out the scale 1 Marine layout at the historical museum.

Overview photo of half of the layout (Photo by Goetz Sachse, Germany)

Progressive Rail in N Scale

Slowly building N Scale version of Progressive Rail in a 19" by 72" space.  This railway is based on a prototype, and an article that appeared around 2002 in Model Railroader, which was designed for HO scale.

The goal is to use code 40 rail, and hand laid turnouts throughout the entire scene.  Another goal is for this layout to fit in my camper, so I have something to work on at night when I travel and go camping.

Online railroad scanner?

I have had more time to have the Trains magazine Rochelle webcam up now and one useful thing I would like to have while doing this is the radio stream going with it. I have the code for that division area but can't seem any sites that stream it is it possible or do I need to invest in a scanner to do it? The code I found is: WQOA993
