DOMTAR Pulp and Paper Mill

This thread documents the rebooted DOMTAR Pulp and Paper Mill layout.

I have decided to combine all of the separate layout blogs I have been posting into one by linking to the older ones below the track plan. I will post all further progress updates in this single blog.

The most recent version of the track plan will be posted at the top of the thread.

Keller Shipyard aka Shipyard at Foss | Sierra West Scale Models

Now for some of my modeling.

I bought this kit a few months after a very close family member passed away. I knew that, someday this event was going to effect me a great deal. For years it sat on a shelf, waiting for its day to be built.

Christmas has come a little early...

This year Christmas has come a little early for our layout.

Two shiny new Athearn - Genesis RDG GP39-2's, a ESU LokSound Programmer and two ESU LokSound - Select Direct - sound decoders (and sugar cube speakers) to go into the GP39-2's.

Late 2016 Update

Well it has been a very long time since the last post and life has been equally busy. Despite the craziness, still found time to get to the basement out of the summer heat and subsequent winter cold, and get some things accomplished on the railroad. Starting this project, I really didn't have a general idea of how fast things would move and how far we would be in roughly a year, but we have reached that point and I am actually quite surprised.

MTM: Ulrike Strauch | European scenery artist

I met Ulrike Strauch (Ulee) in the usual way. I first saw some fantastic images of her work on Facebook, and simply sent her a message. What I found was a German custom builder, that is highly talented, and not afraid to try something new.

Ulee’s scenery work is well sought out, in Europe. And after this interview was completed, my friend has started creating Tree’s so realistically, that I feel we need to talk again sometime next year. She is so very talented, and I do hope you agree.

Please enjoy

N Scale A&C Update

Well, it's been over a year since my last update.  In that time we've had a rapidly growing toddler that has taken up 99% of our time and we also managed to finish the rest of the basement so that we had space to enjoy as a family that was next to the train room.  While we finished the basement, the trainroom became a storage room and needless to say, there had been no work done in there.

Herd of Cows?

This blog entry contains the most appalling pun ever - but here goes:

Of course I have heard of cows -the old ones are always the best!

Two packs of HO cows arrived the other day along with some fencing from York Modelmaking.

How Prototypical is the Atlas Turntable

I am working on and thinking about scratchbuilding a turntable I have a plan that may work but the backup is going with the atlas style with a wood-plank overlay my question is would this be prototypical for a 60-70's era santa fe branchline engine terminal or would it  look out of place? I don't start building yet but wnt to plan as much as possible.

Signalling on the N&AC

My general Blog on the N&AC has some preliminary information on my signal system.  I am using C/MRI with two S-MINI nodes, DCCODs, and Oregon Rails signals.  I am driving all of that with JMRI Panel Pro.  I am also using Digitrax DCC, but the signal system is separate and would work with any train control setup.
