Download link

You should have received an Order confirmation email when you subscribed to Running Extra. The download link in it is the one to use.

Function of your PDF reader

Quote:

Also I like the "book" style when reading(turn page right to left) just like the standard MRH, not crazy about vertical PDF style.

That's a setting in your PDF reader. Tell us what PDF reader you're using and we'll tell you how to make it do the page flip like you want.

Just Curious - MRH App?

Will the App be updated to view RE? Maybe with a login or access key? Thanks, GS

Answers to the last few questions

Don't expect the MRH app to support RE anytime soon. That would be a pretty massive coding project, which would mean a lot of time and money to implement.

You should get a notification email every time a new issue of the magazine is posted.

If the system works as I believe it does (correct me Joe if I'm wrong), you should be able to access all the issues that you've paid for when you log in. There is a maximum download count, so I recommend downloading and storing someplace you can access it from any device you want to read it (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive...).

In the meantime, bookmark that download link!

Issues with iPad

I am having an issue saving the new magazine, I opened it from the link and it opens fine. When I try to save to iBooks ( just called Books now) nothing happens. I did find a work around, copy the link to the Safari browser, open in Safari and then it will copy over to books.

I seem to be able to save other pdf’s to Books fine just not Running Extra. Is there some sort of copy protection on the file?

or this just a problem on my iPad?

Issues with iPad

Brent. I have the same issue. I normally use Chrome, but to download MRH I copy the link to Safari and do the "Copy to Books" from there. If I use Chrome the "Copy to" thing comes up, but it doesn't say Books. I don't know if there's a way to make that association in Chrome, which seems to be built in to Safari. Presumably this is because Safari and iBooks are both native Apple apps, and so play nice together. Annoying, but it's something I can live with.

Very nice

Hi,

getting the first issue worked like a charm.

Just one comment on the issue itself, I had to re-read the first two pages of the second columnist article until I realized that I was in the next article... In the MRH magazine, the ads serve as a nice separation between articles, however with no ads - the Title didn't register with me at first. (Note: I'm reading the portrait edition).

If I may ask for it, could you add a single "Yes it's a model" picture or one of the wallpaper pictures in between articles or columns - unless there is a nice cover shot for the article itself? Just to provide some visual separation for people who are as dense as I am

Anyway, that is complaining on a very high level - the magazine is very nice as far as I have yet read it.

Thanks!

Table of Contents

Maybe I missed it, but is there a table of contents one can view to decide if they want a specific issue?

Thanks,

Yep, you missed it. Just look at the table of contents in the November MRH. On the TOC spread, you will find the second TOC page shows a grayed out TOC for the November issue of Running Extra. If you want to buy the issue, just click or tap the grayed out TOC and tender your payment of $1.99 and you will be able to download and read those extra articles.

Running extra subscriber debut

Hi to all-

If the new “Running Extra” is out, I’m having problems:

- finding it, IF it is out

- seeing it, if it’s out and in front of me in all this material

- logging into it IF I’m in the right spot.

Could use some help.

Re: running extra subscriber debut

Lonnie, running extra is out with the first issue, November. When you subscribe you got an email with the link to the download page.

The email comes from MRH media, the statement before the link is: "You can get to your order and manage your subscription on your download page:"

Takes you to a page in your browser that looks similar to this:

Scrolling problem

I’m not liking this RE thing for a number of reasons. Its multiple new steps to get the product and open it. It scrolls vertically on my iPad instead of horizontally like the regular magazine. It wont resize either. Then there is the whole having to copy, save and using some share button on the bottom bar which I can’t find. My model railroad magazines are supposed to be relaxing and a pleasurable experience but all this extra stuff is the exact opposite...a real pia.

You're making this WAY too hard on your iPad.

DO NOT read it directly in the browser, copy it to iBooks or download the GoodReader app and read it there.

Once the PDF comes up in your browser on your iPad, tap the white space to the right of the Running Extra logo and you will see OPEN IN ... come up on the bottom of your browser screen (screen grab below):

IMG-0761.PNG

Tap OPEN IN ... and then WAIT. It may take 60 seconds or more to come up because the RE mag is a 370 page PDF (HUGE), so be patient -- it WILL come up.

Once the open in comes up, you will see a list of apps you can copy the PDF to for a much improved reading experience (screen grab):

Here is the list of copy alternatives I have on my iPad. I prefer GoodReader ($5 app) because it does a wonderful job giving me any option I can imagine for reading the PDF. But iBooks isn't bad either. ezPDF reader is also a good option -- it's available on Android devices as well.

Note this does copy the PDF to your iPad, so it consumes memory. We are planning to stand up a paywall with Running Extra available online as well, but that's going to take a few months of programming time and expense to get in place.

P.S. Also bookmark this link or add it to a reading list. This is your personal custom link for accessing Running Extra and it will never change. By bookmarking it or adding it to a reading list, the link will remain at your fingertips and you can access it whenever you like to get all the latest issues you've paid for.

re: PDF readers

Joe,

Curious why do you not like the free Adobe Acrobat Reader available for ios and android (and desktop PCs, etc)?

I guess my question is what makes those suggestions so much better than the on produced by adobe?

Acrobat on mobile devices

Acrobat on mobile devices is a very crippled, wimpy app. The apps I show (including iBooks on iOS) are much more robust apps. For some reason Adobe chose to really dumb down Acrobat on mobile devices and it’s the last app I recommend for reading PDFs on mobile devices.

Ironic, since PDF is their format.

Do we have an expected

Do we have an expected arrival time for the December issue? Not complaining just wondering so I can stop going back to that bookmarked link I saved?

December issue

Likely release of the December issue of MRH will be Friday (tomorrow). Keep in mind we need to debug the magazine and we prefer to do that by an initial release to the MRH website and then getting feedback such as: this link is broke, etc. Then we fix any boo-boos found and do a general release and a mass email a day or so later. Running Extra will *always* release on the later date so we can roll the fixes into the MRH section first. The RE section doesn’t have ads so there’s a lot less to test in that part. So please don’t get too ancie about RE when you see the first MRH pre-release. We’re delaying the release of RE for a very good reason. You will get an email once RE is ready.

Christmas special joint renewal

Is there a way to get TMTV and running extra in sync? My TMTV expires in July and I signed up for a year of running extra already. I would like to take advantage of the special to extend both.

Great job on both

Mike

MRH: Unfortunately, there currently is no automated way to sync up TMTV and a Running Extra subscription. About the only way is to let your TMTV membership lapse, and then ask us to give you a special "buffer" TMTV membership manually that's only good until your Running Extra susbscription ends. Then renew using the TMTV+RE membership and they're now in sync.

Be CVna ya

Mike
