Quick, cheap display case

I decided I wanted a display case for my locomotives when they weren't earning their keep on the layout. I had some extra benchwork material sitting around, I ripped it down to 1 3/4" wide and 39" long. 39" is 4 pieces of Kato unitrack (9 3/4"). Tacked a piece of ply on as a back and painted two coats of black paint.

Small container customer

I'm looking for prototype information / ideas / pictures of a small - better tiny - container terminal or container receiving customer. It would be nice to be able to include some container / well cars into switching operation without having a huge container terminal with hundreds and thousands of containers. Is - or was - there something usable as an inspiration?

Multiple industries on same spur track

I guess we all have them, multiple industries on the same spur track, where we need to move cars being loaded or unloaded to spot another car. How common is this on the real railroads? Did the prototype have to secure the load  somehow before the cars were moved? Or is this  a mostly a modeling  concept, and the real railroads do everything in  their power to avoid this?,

Thanks

Looking for good quality while inexpensive Silicone Rubber Mold Making Materials

It has been a long time since I have used Silicone Rubber Mold making material.  My previous supplier is no longer in business.  I could go back to who I was first purchasing Silicone Rubber mold materials, but I am hoping to find a cheaper supplier.

Why would you get rid of what appeared to be a great railroad and change scale?

I just read that Bob Helm had dismantled a really fine looking transition era layout and was starting over in a new scale with a logging line. His layout had progressed to the point of operating sessions and was mostly or completely covered with scenery. A signal system was installed as well as defect detectors. The layout packed in multiple decks and a really long main line and had staging as well.

1:35n2, 1:37n2, or like comparing 1:29 and 1:32?

I like narrow gauge, I have since, well forever. On30 caught my eye a few years ago, and I liked the idea. O scale trains on HO track. I also like On3 and On2. That is my dilemma. I stumbled upon the idea of 55n3 at a website called www.55n3.org. Seams like a good idea to me, but I also find out about 1:35n2/1:37n2. I liked the 2 foot ones because they're bigger than O scale and can use just about any Bachmann On30 locomotive. I know 1:35 is a military Modelers scale, so people and vehicles should be easy to come by.

WP Caboose Decals

Anyone know where I might be able to find a set of WP caboose decals for their outside braces cars in HO? Microscale used to make them, set 87-212, but they don't even list it on their website anymore and I can't find it anywhere, even eBay. Any leads out there would be greatly appreciated. I finally got an accurate brass caboose on the way for the Tidewater Southern, but I'll need that decal set to finish it. Thanks in advance!

Unitrack Turnout control switches

Propose to use the Kato turnout control switches but not use the DC converter.Have an independant DC 16v supply. Can this be connected directly to the switch.I haven't actually seen the switches yet.I understand that they can be connected to one another to form a bank of switches. Thanks. Tom

Purchasing Strategy : "Stockpiling" VS "J-i-T"?

Dear MRHers,

As I plow thru my current layout-build project, I've necessarily been obtaining various parts and components to "git 'er done". Funnily enough though, I've found that I'm actually purchasing less than I imagined, as a quick look thru the "warehouse" reveals that I already have a significant number of the various required components on-hand.
