local or online?

I support my local store when I need quick parts or some track, but have had more success buying online so I can get exactly what I want in the way of cars or locos. both work well for me. just wondering what is the trend now? mostly online or both like myself?

A Model Railroad Hobbyist Convention

Here I sit on my front porch reading the posts from my fellow MRH posters thinking "wouldn't it be great to attend a MRH convention and spend time and get to know my fellow MRH buddies?"....and attend clinics by some of the greats (MRH posters)....and get a group photo....and break bread (and other yummy things) together!

Oh well - just a pipe dream. I'll just hope to run into some of my MRH virtual buddies some day.

Wiring CVT or Proto87 Superfine HO scale turnouts

I need some guidance and help on how to wire these turnouts for DC.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated as this will be my first attempt at doing so.

Fiddling around with backdrops

I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to paint my backdrop, hire an artist (like I did with the alcove on my former RR), or used a printed backdrop.  I was experimenting and taped up this backdrop behind some scenery to see what it looks like.  I'll have to think on this awhile...... How do I post video from my iPhone?

I have shot some video of trains with my iPhone. How do I post them on the forums to share them? Thanks.

Heading to Las Vegas next month, would like to visit a couple of model railroad stores. Suggestions?

I was there last year and did find one. It was a larger store that had everything as well as models.
Hobbytown USA, 4590 W Sahara Ave Ste 103, Las Vegas I think.

Any others to recommend? Interested in HO scale only.

Who has done HOn30 at any point?

HOn30 is definitely a real niche within a niche; most of the HO narrow gauge people do HOn3.  How many here have ever done anything with this real backwater of model railroading, either as their primary layout or as a small part of their larger standard gauge (or, as some in northern Maine way back would say, "broad gauge" line?  I'm just curious--and would welcome any experiences  with these tiny trains.
