Modeling general discussion
Lande Mindheims blog
Can anyone provide me a link to Lance Mindheims blog on MRH? I have tried searching for it without success.
"Moat" mushroom design
I saw on a cached version of the MR forums Joe talking about a moat mushroom design. I did a search but couldn't find much on the subject and I am hoping Joe (or anyone else) could fill me in on what it entails and how it differs from a "traditional" mushroom design.

Paragon Series 2 Question
I just bought a BLI Paragon Series 2 SD9. I use JMRI for programming and all went well except for one thing. On the advanced tab there is an option to set the Packet Time Out value with the default being 2. This CV sets how long an engine will operate without input from the throttle before it coasts to a stop. I've tried changing the value from 0 up to 244 which appears to be the max but it has no effect. The loco still coasts to a stop within 30 feet or so unless I make a throttle adjustment.
What rolling stock?
I'm currently working on the idea of having a small portable switching layout I can take to hobby shows and something to have fun with while working on my modular layout.
I've seen some plans I like on the net that only have two turnouts, but look interesting to operate.
I want to model a small nail factory circa late 1940s. I'm going to call it Dominion Nail Works. I've already made a private car for this industry.
Switching back from HO to N
By now you all must call me crazy. It's not even a year that I took down my N scale Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad and started on my German HO layout. Now I'm doing it again. Let me try to explain.
Model Railroading like home remodeling
Ever start a "minor" repair on the railroad and it turns into a major project? Kind of like wanting to replace a ceiling fan in your house and ending up redoing the entire room.
Marathons
What is the longest you've modeled or worked on your layout in consecutive hours? I went on an 18 hour bender on Saturday and got so much done! Finished some models, started others, and got lots of scenery completed. I find that when I get into the "zone," I'm best to ride it out for all it's worth. Usually results in some great productivity. All in all it was a great model railroading weekend for me Please feel free to share your experiences/war stories!

Interesting Pipe Load
I was out doing some rail fanning today and I came across this interesting pipe load on a tractor trailer.
Anybody ever seen pipe loaded this way before?
How 'bout on a rail car?
