Modeling Fill
Anyone with resources for realistically modeling earthen fills? Specifically I am looking for info on the slope angles that are used by railroads when making fills. I searched MRH without much luck, though I found a few photos.
I have one scene where I want to feature the track curving through the scene on a tall fill with a dramatic mountain scene on the backdrop photo, but I need to get the fill right or it won't look good.
Thanks
Model Railroad layout design help
Ok, If i was to post on here, or email to anyone interested, photos and information on a shortline i will be modelling in southern Ontario, The Orangeville-Brampton railway as it was back in the 1940's, from shelburne to the diamond at Brampton. Do you think that someone would be interested in helping to design a layout for my basement? Just throwing it out there to see what response I may get, Bob
NWP/Eureka/Scotia trip
I'm going to be able to make a trip over to the cost for a of day picture taking and history gathering. I plan on seeing the Simpson mill in Korbel and Pacific Lumber in Scotia. Do they still have the walking tour for PALCO? Anything else I should see while I'm there? Anything AMR I should check out? Anybody have a recommendation for a cheap and clean place to stay for a night - Motel 6?
TIA
Steve

Glow in the dark paint. Anyone ever used it?
Having worked with it with Halloween decorating, anyone ever used Glow in the Dark paint with this hobby? I usually use a ultra violet LED to stimulate the paint and cause it to glow and once the diorama or project has been turned off, the paint will glow for a couple of hours afterwards.
Just curious.
Any Halloween inspired layouts or creepy dead end alleys?
Thanks.

My NTS haul
Just got back from the Atlanta show. It was my first NTS and it was awesome! I even met Joe Fugate, his wife, and Les Halmos. As always at train shows, I scoured the dealer tables for freight cars on my want list. I was able to find some scarce ones that I needed, plus some that were too cool to pass up. If my upload worked, the attached video was shot on my HO Shasta Route layout showing my haul. Pretty much blew the hobby budget for a couple months at least (haven't assessed the complete damage yet). Also got some other books and misc trinkets.
Auto Loader
To All: Anyone out there know which railroads ran the Auto Loaders? Thanks, Elvin Howland

What do model railroaders mean by the term "soon"?
I notice there are numerous instances where model railroaders use the term "soon" to describe when an event is going to happen or a goal will be reached. Some manufacturers have items arriving or shipping "soon" that have been in that state for months (if not longer); I've got benchwork that's been approaching "completion" since 2010...
