MEK Substitute

Tried some, bonds styrene just like MEK

"MEK Substitute" is the name of the product, it replaces Methyl ethyl ketone(MEK), the best bonding agent for sytrene. MEK is being phased out.

Dream train?

This morning, I find myself wondering if anyone else has a "dream train" that they think they'd like to model one day, even if it has absolutely nothing to do with anything else they they model.  I have two, both of them passenger trains.

Weekend Photo Fun 9/20 - 9/22/13

Here's a loco that I just weathered using a rattle can, some of my wife's makeup, and 2" paint brush.  Just kidding!  Just getting the ball rolling!

Atlas HO S-2 Handrails

So I started a project that I've had sitting around.  I'm detailing and painting an old Atlas S-2, but apparently it's so old that the handrails became brittle and when I was removing them I ended up with more pieces than when I started with.  The old S-2/4 has been out of production for a long time, and it doesn't look like the handrails are available from Atlas anymore.  I've checked the usual places for them, and can't find any.  Does anyone know of an alternate source?  Anyone have any they'd be willing to part with?

Kits to build rail cars

Are there any kits available for building rail cars both freight and passenger?  If so where?  Thanks.

Show us your before and after pictures.

How about some before and after pictures of your guys layouts, rolling stock, and locomotive builds.

I was looking at pictures of some of the buildings and rolling stock I built for the layout. This is a before and after shot of my Basic Oxygen Furnace.

Need ID!!!

I recently purchased my first HO brass locomotive after spending more than 20 years longing for one.  As someone who likes to build/kitbash/super-detail locomotives when I have the time, which I have not had in a long time, (see some of my old blogs here on modifying/detailing Tyco/Mantua and Roundhouse kit locos) I, of course, went for what appeared to be a semi-completed brass kit.  Since my project road is the Tallulah Falls Railroad (again, blogs) I opted for a loco suited to that road, a 2-6-0.
