Useful Website for Prototype Short Lines - Shale Gas too

For an interesting insight into a raIl company with numerous short lines (over 100) check out the corporate website for Genesis & Wyoming. Their maps of the short lines they own and the lists of products and industries served may help in your model railroad planning.

Potential newbie to n scale

Today I was browsing the net and to my surprise, I didn't realize how N scale has improved in regards to realistic detail over the years.

Is there such a thing as code 40 rail for n scale and more a realistic sized coupler on the market?
Also, do n scale locos run just as smooth and as realistic at slow crawling speeds as the HO ones made by the same manufacturers?

I' m tempted to build a small portable switching layout.

Vendors?

I'm just getting back into this hobby.  I have  a layout pre-high school years (late 70's).  I guessing that there's some good vendors online (good pricing & fast shipping).  Any other ideas on where to buy stuff?

There's only one small  model RR shop nearby, but would like other options.

Trains 2013 Meet and Show

Moderator note: moved since it isn't an event notice.

Is anyone on this forum going to the meet and shiow in Burnaby this November. I think it would be nice to meet fellow MRH forum members at this show if possible.

tru-color paint Phoenix AZ

I recently purchased an assortment of this brand of paint(advertised in Narrow Gauge and Short line Gazette)

Last night I used the clear flat to seal a recently decaled HOn3 box car .It had a reaction to the decal film leaving it "milky" I was very disappointed. I will call the manufacture Monday...but mean while be careful.

Goo Gone

Do any of you use Goo-Gone to clean your tracks? I used to be a member of a club that used it and it seemed to work great. Does anyone have any insights they'd like to share as to pros and cons?

Thanks and happy modeling!

Weekend Photo Fun 9-27 to 9/29/13

O.K. kids!  It's that time again for your photos.  I titled mine "Bunch-O-Dumpsters".  My good modeling friend Kevin Klettke scratch build these wonderful dumpsters and sent them to me.  I made a mold and cast a bunch of them out of resin. That pink thing in the foreground is the mold with two dumpsters ready to be poped out.  Most went to Kevin and I kept a few.  Thanks, Kevin!

Making my own substitute PolyScale paints

With demise of PolyScale and Floquil, I wonder if anywhere there is a source for what primary colors should be mixed in what proportions to make the paint of choice:  in my case, PolyScale Earth?  I have a number of artists acrylics that are essentially primary colors.  It would be interesting and even fun to "roll my own."

A video cab ride on the Central Florida Railroad Modelers "Ridgeline" route

As a member of the Central Florida Railroad Modelers club I have 24/7 access to our wonderful layout.  I wanted to post this video which is about 11 minutes long (but does have an annoying ad at the start) that shows just one of the routes on the layout.  This video and others are posted on our site.  Here's the link to the site:
