Old equipment worth using?

I am returning to the hobby after 20 years or so. My layout has really old Atlas custom line turnouts ( stamped points) all code 100 NS, and really old Athearn engines. Block cab control of course.

All the new stuff seems so high priced ( old guy talking); is it worthwhile trying to get my old stuff to run reliably, or should I scrap it and go on to something newer? I realize that ultimately I need to make some choices, but are other folks still using 30 year old equipment successfully ?

Anyone have any experience with.......

...........Iowa Scaled Engineering's slow motion switch machines?  They look to be a good product at a reasonable price.

Custom Decals Arrived

Got my order for custom decals in the mail this week!  Just wanted to say:  Thanks to all who have participated in the MRH Forums/Discussions about custom decals.  From all I read on here...it got me motivated, finally.

Also thanks to MRH I found Bill Brillinger, a frequent poster who has a decal business that was recommended by other MRH posters.

In search of information on Ambroid Wooden AFC Center Flow Hooper Cars.

Hope this helps - you also might want to sign up for MRH on our website (if you haven't already) and post this question on the Forum - it's very possible that one of the other modelers there either has the issue or knows someone else who does.

Creating separate PDFs for MRH Magazine articles

First the disclaimer:  Yes, I'm a little crazy, and yes this is extra work - but it's helpful to me and the way I do things.

I know that there are a number of indexes and search tools to find certain articles in MRH magazines, but in my old fashioned way I want to have separate PDF files of things that I find especially interesting so that I can easily browse through them.

Peco Code83 turnout American style

Has anyone out there used Peco code 83 US style turnouts?

Why I ask is I would like to know how RP25 110 wheels go through the frogs - any wheel drop issues?

Copying MRH articles

I'd like to be able to save an MRH article to my computer so I can read it offline after I've read the rest of the particular issue and deleted it.  Articles like making trees, I'd like to be able to keep an article for future reference.  I know I can print them but that seems like a waste of paper.  Is there a way to save individual articles?

P.S.  Please forgive my choice of topic and subject.  I get messages that tell me I can't post an article if I use MRH as the topic.

Using a Sonic Cleaner for cleaning older switches.

I have a collection of 100 Shinohara switches in a box.  All have the aged/corrosion appearance to the rail, all are used and some still have some ballast attached between the rails.

With so many, can I drop those into a sonic cleaner to renew/polish?  Has anyone done this?
