On demand laser cutting service?
This comment on Michael Rose's Georgetown & Allen Mountain RR blog got me thinking:
Wouldn't it be cool to be able to submit a CAD file of your layout plan and have roadbed like this custom cut for you?
Variation on Electrical Wipers for Athearn 200ton Railroad Crane
I am building my second Athearn 200 Ton Railroad Crane (from a kit bought at a swap meet) and decided to install some lights on the crane, a la Dr. Greg's wonderful build article last year (the Athearn motorized crane). I reviewed his images and description of how he created the electrical pick-up wipers for his model and found that I could do the same in a slightly different manner.
Airbrush Recomendation with a twist...
Hi All,
I'm interested in getting an Airbrush and really have no clue what features to look for, what brands are reliable or much else about them.

Life atop a 2" foam bench top - yes it is noisy
Since I've got the cork down and track glued to it I've been running trains on my 2" foam and yes, it is noisy. I only run trains with 5 cars and a caboose at a very slow speed (due to the small size of the layout) and the noise is OK to my ears. I can clearly hear the train wheels on the track. I don't know how scenery will muffle (if any) the sound but I kind of like it! Call me crazy!
GATX tank cars
Does anyone know if GATX tank cars were seen on Canadian branchines in the late fifties or in the early seventies?
Caboose Use for Local Trains
Modeling a Missouri Pacific switching layout set in the early to mid 1980's .
Looking for links, documentation, and information on the use and operations of cabooses assigned to local freights. Information on caboose handling during switching operations would be especially helpful.

Order in which to build?
I will soon get to where my Dover yard area will have all trackwork in place. So then I need to decide - do I move on to the laying of more trackwork for the next location on the layout, which then leads to the next section of benchwork to build, etc, or do I start to landscape and scratch build structures for Dover and put off extending the line for some months.
