Turntable

I have tried to make something out of the Walthers turntable. I started with this:

and after three days of adding stuff to it it looks like this now:

Finally the weekend.  Cool video Dri! And that turntable looks great Michael.

Here's a project I finished last week.  Athearn blue box car as the base, heavily modified to match the proto as close as I could, including much of the underframe bits.  Here's the prototype:

Here's my attempt to match the proto:

Here's the opposite side, based on a composite of 3 random cars as I did not have a prototype shot of this side available.  This shot shows some of the work done to the A end of the car.

Just simply amazing. This looks as if you built these scenes outside.

NIce Kpack. I can't tell which is which. How many hours do you have in that box car?

Incredible photos and work by

Incredible photos and work by everyone!  Always a treat to see what is going to be shown here on a weekly basis.  Both inspirational and inspiring!

I finished up a Kato SD40 in Wisconsin Central colors.  Added the snow shields (had to fabricate as best I could with styrene) and added a few other details as well as weathered it up a bit.

Very nice!

Mike - I never get tired of looking at pics of your layout!

Chessie - those snowshields look good from here.  Thumbs up!

Paul - thanks!

Dri - honestly I'm not sure how many hours I have wrapped up in this one.  It takes me longer than it should because I work slow, get distracted, etc.  I'm just glad to have it done!

That boxcar is stunningly good!   Makes me wonder if you were responsible for condition of the original

I've been busy working on my

I've been busy working on my new river scene. This is part of the main room layout, that I'm rebuilding, improving trackwork, and recently a new backdrop installed.

There will be 3 bridges in this scene. The truss through bridge against the wall, the girder bridge in the middle, and a wood deck bridge on the inside.

I just finished building the ME 160' girder & deck bridge. I still need to glue down the bridge track and weather it.

Painting Practice

I had a second hand Walthers Trainline GP7/GP9 that the previous owner decided to kit bash. He chopped off the head code box and made a very bad attempt to add a hi nose.  It was then hand painted black and various attempt made to put CP logos on.

I figured it would be a good option to have my first attempt at painting an old loco.  Below is the original followed by  that attempt fresh out of the paint shop 9apologies for the mis match in photo size).  Next step is some decals and dullcote. I will then have a canvas to try some first time weathering. (Hopefully that will cover up some of the blemishes in the repaint.  If anyone knows where I might find some new hand rails I would be pleased to hear it.

Pro tip... on the first tab

Pro tip... on the first tab of the photo attachment pop-up, you can change the photo size, border, and alignment very easily. For example...

So all you need to do is set your photos to the same width (or height) and they'll match each other. I usually add some spacing around them too, so that text doesn't butt up against them and become more difficult to read. Play round with the parameters on a practice post and learn how to use them... I used to code my HTML by hand, so this was old hat to me.

Oil Distribution Business

Here is project I have working on for a customer over the last couple of weeks. I will say that of all the kits and scratch buildings I have done this one was the most difficult one to build, it is a Grandt Line Kit. It came out really well, but the old fingers and eyes it was not easy. There are many very little and delicate parts.

Little Joe gets a sister

Electric locomotive "Little Joe" and a Great Northern Y-1 are test run using a Heathkit momentum throttle. They are running "Natural Sound" modules in them.

Hopeful this coming Monday the Y-1's twin sister will arrive.

Great work!!!!

All of the pics and videos are great! Everything is stunning.

I've been piddling around with this Jaeger kit I bought on a whim. I never realized that wrapping blocks of wood would be so time intensive. The work is a breeze. I initially started doing one at a time. That lasted all of three of them. I started an assembly line of sorts. That did make things move a little faster. But I'm in no hurry. Now it's time to tackle the other half.

Thanks Gary Christensen, I appreciate the comments. I'm still blown away by your D&RGW SD40-2. I saw your photos on the weathering site. Is that loco for sale? If so, I'm interested. PM me please.

A Caboose for the TS

This is a Westside Models brass caboose from the 1970s that I found recently.  No one makes Tidewater Southern caboose decals, so the name had to be done letter by letter, which was frustrating at the time, but rewarding at the end.  The side windows were made with aircraft canopy glue.  I was motivated to finish this project in time to bring it to the Northwest RPM meet that took place today.  Lots of fun!

Bernd, I love the Y-1. Is that HO scale and where can I get one? I also like the "Natural Sound" digital PC sound card. I'm quite sure that's gotta be a lok-sound. The audio is so convincing
