Painted backdrops on textured walls

Starting the very early building process for the new layout now. The layout room has nicely done taped, textured and painted walls already that are straight and free of defects.  Rather than cover them with something else and then do painted backdrops I was thinking about doing them right on the wall.  It is a mild typical knockdown texture and I was thinking of doing a light skim coat to eliminate the texture before going for it.

Just wondering who has done this,  what your experience has been and of course pictures are always appreciated.

Fading Blue Paint Question

Hi folks, I am currently working on an HO scale conrail N-21 caboose, road number 21293. I have modelflex conrail blue, and have repainted the car with and air brush, preserving the decals already on the model, but when it came time fade the paint, I had some trouble. Maybe I made the wash too thin (white acrylic paint thinned with alcohol) or maybe it’s just my airbrush, but it was very uneven and was almost too white for the fade on the prototype. What do you use when fading paint, and if you've faded blue before, how so?

My layout got published

Hi all!
I just received the latest issue of the biggest model railroad magazine in Scandinavia;
Modelljärnvägsmagasinet, i.e. the model railroad magazine.

It's the 10 year anniversary issue, and inside there's an article on my layout and the visit I had from a club.

Tru-color paint help

Just got back to the workbench to shoot some paint on a couple stripped shells.

This is my first go around with Tru-color paint and I had mixed results early on.

My first color was CR blue and it shot well and seemed to cover nicely. I put a few drops of acetone into the jar before starting to thin it down a tad. I am not sure if this cause it to not have the high level of gloss straight from the jar that I have read about.

Airbrush question

Hello All,

I recently began using an airbrush. I tried to use a 10% paint -90% alcohol mixture to fade a box car. The issue was the paint FolkArt acrylic left small spots all over the car. I tried adjusting the mixture and ensured I shook it well before I sprayed the car and it keeps happening. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the help

HOn30, HOe

Is anyone here actively working on an HOn30/HOe layout using European prototype like the products of Liliput, BEMO, and others?

I'm looking for real-world prototype information and layout concepts to build a realistically operating system.  Information on data sources and suppliers is also welcome. Can read some technical railroad German if I have to.

Monster Modelworks?

Has anyone heard any news regarding Monster Modelworks return?

Climb aboard a 7-1/2" gauge

I had the pleasure this weekend of riding along with friends in Div 4 and Div 9 of the North Central Region aboard the White Creek Railroad in rural Michigan. Very beautiful and very large railroad. Enjoy the ride.
