Modeling general discussion

searching for a new location

This topic is where I am seeking a new setting location for my new layout. I want only one town in a hilly setting where the NYC and PRR railroads interchanged. The town needs to be relatively small -- probably fewer than 5,000 population. I want both coal train operation and general freight to be featured with several local on-line customers. The setting will be 1927. The photo below is the type of setting that I am looking for.

I ask for your ideas and suggestions along your comments.

Great Model Railway Challenge 2019

The second series of UK Channel 5's Great Model Railway Challenge is currently being filmed, and should probably be broadcast in September/October again. There will be 8 episodes instead of 6 last year, and each episode might be a bit longer than last year.

Some of us 'Basingstoke Bodgers' attended the judging of a heat last week as part of the studio audience:

Happy Fathers Day

For all the dads out there and those remembering your father today, I hope yours is as chill as mine has been. As much as I love and miss my kids, I love the time to myself. Besides a “virtual” bicycle ride (Zwift) and making a short little film of my staging area, I have absolutely no plans, goals, or obligations today. Sweet!

What did everyone else do?

Sometimes you stumble across amazing sites while looking for something else.  The CRP&A has beautiful quality images of many roads - work life, main line, still lifes of cities.  Not all the images are online, they have thousands of slides and prints in their home base of Madison Wisconsin, and they collaborate with libraries and learning centers.

Seattle Viaduct - 3D Print

My layout includes a bit of downtown Seattle.  As such, I just HAVE to HAVE the Viaduct.  Found this great 3D file on Thingiverse, scaled it for 3 lanes, and actually got it to print on my Printrbot Play.  I’ve probably got about 30 of these to print.

Toilet paper water ala Martin

I watched Martin’s video on how to model waves using toilet paper and glue while back, and thought I’d use the technique for this corner of my layout.  Really easy, and while my painting leaves something to be desired, as always, I’m very pleased with the shape of the waves.
