Layout Video Update - June 2019

https://youtu.be/diovcfvDphg

Latest video update showing progress on my a-building Central Vermont Richford Branch -

I spent a fair amount of time on this video comparing a prototype photo to the area on the layout where that scene will appear. This made the the video more a "what I'm planning to do" type thing than I'd prefer, but I wanted to capture some of the early stuff on "film."

The Ideal Layout (versus "Dream" Layout)

The recent discussion on "Texas syndrome" has me thinking, what would be my Ideal layout? I distinguish this from the "Dream" layout, which I compare to winning the lottery, fun to dream about but something that is never going to happen.

The "Ideal" layout would be something that I could see myself building. So given the following parameters, what would be your "Ideal" layout.

CNR Piggyback project

I've been working on this Modelwerx kit. This kit is the first kit I have airbrushed:

The one of the left will depict a more weathered one, and the one on the right much cleaner.

So far I have painted the mudflaps, wheel, and the undercarriage parts.

Idea: MRH Comprehensive Guide to Model Railroading Resources

On another thread, an interesting idea was suggested:

MRH Comprehensive Guide to Model Railroading Resources

This would be a categorized list of vendors and links to their website.

For example, you could visit a page on Trackwork and find all manner of vendors listed who sell trackwork products sorted by scale, with hyperlinks to their website.

I can see MRH Registered users getting this guide in PDF form for free (with live hyperlinks), and a paperback version for those who prefer that format for a modest price.

I got this little bus years ago, but don't know what year it is.

Mid fifties?

Athearn announces new run of UP Big Boy

Athearn has announced the next round of Genesis HO-scale UP Big Boys for June 2020. http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/062819/01_GEN_4-8-8-4_BigBoy_062819.pdf

With the hype around 4014 that seemed likely.

Black diamond coal slag for coal loads or ballast?

I saw a video made by a guy who was using Black Diamond Coal Slag blast media for his aquariums (in the bottom, to make some pretty black sand) and wondered about whether it would be useful in ballast.

I don't know about the conductivity, but I suspect it is conductive. Whether it would be conductive enough to cause a problem, especially if mixed with other ballast components, would have to be tested or at least understood by someone who can understand safety sheets.

I need HELP!

Quite awhile back I set aside some spaces on my new double-deck layout plan to have some logging scenes.

I labeled them Logging Tracks & Logging Interchange
