Recruiting new folks into the hobby

The Roundhouse Model Railroad Club in St. James, MN uses it's open house sessions and community events to help recruit new folks into the hobby. It holds two major open house periods each year, one in June in conjunction with the town's community "Railroad Days" festival and the other in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Any other clubs out doing something similar? The club has recruited several new members in their late teens/early 20s recently. Any ideas about how to pull in high school age folks?

Bundling a lot of threads and a little philosophy.....

Definitely a What’s on my workbench, but a story too.

OSB

Hello,
I've been noticing more people have been using OSB for benchwork. I have used osb in smaller sections and have not had any issues. How many of you have built your layout using osb as the top surface, and what are the pros and cons you have experienced?

I must admit I was an armchair modeler.

I must admit I was an armchair modeler for awhile.

My last HO layout was in 1978. It was in a spare room 10'x12'. Roughly based in Southern Ontario, running early steam. Then I had to move to a one bedroom apartment, so it went into boxes and into my storage locker in the apartment basement. Well, in 1980, sometime between putting the Christmas decorations in the locker and going to get the BBQ and balcony chairs in late April. I found I was victim of a burglary, the locker was bare. Luckily I had content insurance.

Odd decal

I found this odd decal going through my decal drawer.

I don't recall CNR having a black leaf angled wafer.

I remember seeing the " Whats Neat" podcast where Ken Patterson shows how he built the Blackstone display layout. I cant find it now, Im trying to find the track plan.

GMC motor home

I saw this awesome 1973 motor home and took pics of it.

Now that would be a nice model in HO scale to add to my collection:

parts casting-what have you cast with silicone rubber?

I am starting to make a mold of skeleton logging cars with silicon molding compound. What items have you made a mold and cast the railroad car or scenery details?
