Modeling general discussion

What was most interesting at the Train Show?

any thoughts of those who saw all the new stuff at the NTS - what did you find most interesting. - new products ?

Albany Live Steamers

Visited the Albany Live Steamers a while ago.  3 miles of track in the woods, lots of tunnels and bridges, made for a very fun ride!

I jokingly refer to model railroading as my insanity.  These folks are really nuts!  I love it.

Breaking up (an estate) is hard to do

Friends and neighbors, I need some advice, inspiration and / or experience.  This is NOT a 'For Sale' ad, it is an open-ended question about what to do with this stuff.  You want to buy some of it, contact me off-forum and I'll drop the URL with photos and the details spreadsheet.

Decaling on Unpainted Plastic?

Folks, years back John Nerich Of Berkshire Lines fame did an article on hopper cars and lettering. In it he explored the possibility of not painting black plastic hoppers but applying decals directly to the plastic sides, assumedly after coating with a gloss coat. Afterwards the idea was to weather the finished product.

LIVE VIDEO from the Salt Lake City National Train Show!

Let’s try some live video from the National Train Show today. They'll be fairly short ... but we'll do noon and 2 pm Mountain time.

The first one at noon will be a quick visit to the MRH Booth and we'll also take in a few layouts at the train show as a test. If that’s successful, we'll do another at 2 pm visiting with a few vendors.

Layout help.

On my layout build thread, I posted the following:
"I am way behind on my layout rebuild. My right knee is getting so I cannot be on it for too long. I will be having replacement surgery on July 22.  I said I would be on the Muskoka Fall Tour, but I think I need help getting the layout ready for the tour. Any help would be appreciated".

The first response I received was from Jack in SW MO:

Atlas turntable installation

I picked up a Atlas manual turntable, model 305. I can't decide if I should mount it on top of the table with the 1/4" slope or set it into the table so the tracks are level with the existing layout tracks. There is no roadbed in this yard area. The visual impact is my problem. I intend to brick it in with red brick paper or more lumber as per the turntable top. I'm modeling the early '50s. Does anyone have ideas or photos of what they did?

Intermountain GP16

Has anyone heard any news of when the IM GP16 will arrive? Any on display at the convention?

2019 NMRA Convention - Joes Musings

Yesterday I did five clinics total: Run like a Dream - two sessions in the morning, 8am and 11am Painting models in a post-Floquil world - one session, 1pm Siskiyou Line 2 - two session, 6:30pm and 8pm I think that’s the most clinics I’ve ever given in one day ... my previous record was four clinics in one day. Today, Thursday, is setup at the train show and our new MRH Staffer, Eric Hansmann shows up to help with the MRH presence at the show.
