Roof Top Cyclone Dust Collectors

I need to scratch build a Cyclone type Dust Collector for the storage bin for the Feed Mill I am building. I have looked at all of those on the various mfg's web sites but none of will work for te size I need. Anybody got any suggestions?

Weathering N&W

Hi

As we all know N&W diesels had a very dark paint scheme, mostly black. I find it difficult to create an interesting weathering, the only thing I can think about is dust created by a wash with the airbrush.

Any ideas?

3D Printer Files...

Is there any chance of having an area where we can post and share 3D printer files? I think it would be a great resource for modelers with 3D printers.

ME vs Peco

I'm sure there will be plenty of opinions on this but I wanted to hear from fellow modelers their thoughts on ME #6 Code 83 turnouts vs Peco # 6 Code 83 turnouts. From what I have read, both have spring loaded points, both are DCC friendly without any special wiring. Both have scale size ties and nice spike and tie plate detail. So what makes one better than the other? I did notice that ME #6's are about 10 bucks cheaper.

AC/DC and Tortoise Switch Machines

Hi everyone,

I miswired some of my layout to use 12 VDC for Tortoises and now need to use 16VAC to power them instead. I know Circutron makes a PS-1 and PS-2 converters but they are a bit on the pricey side and I would need two at least. I only have 4 Tortoises to rewire, "3 on one module and 1 on anther module" and was looking for any alternatives to convert them on the cheap. Is regulated necessary or can it be unregulated? Minimal size and weight are a priority.

Thanks ahead of your response.

Scratchbuilding a Coal Pocket

Here's the first in several posts on the research and construction of the Household Fuel coal pocket on my layout. I'm in the process of building the model now, and it will be the first signature structure completed.

While I've built structures before, this is my first scratch-building effort, although I wouldn't be this far without my friend Dick's help. The first post is about the prototype itself.

Part 3 & Part 4 - The 3D Printed N-Scale Stockyard/Feed Lot is Tested & Completely Assembled

This update includes the final two parts of the design and building of the Morris Stockyard/Feed Lot with 3D printed parts.  The video below (Part 3) shows some of the final testing that was done to ensure that the spacing between the siding and the cattle ramps was sufficient to permit a train to pass by all of the 18 ramps.  During the testing, I found one ramp that had to be moved back.  The train in the video is pulled/pushed by an Intermountain FT A/B with a few stock cars prior to beginning the next step of assembly.

removable layout section

We are building a medium size HO layout in a 15'x25' room.  However, a loop of the track must run out of the train room and around a gas forced air furnace.  In the event that the furnace needs replacement/repair down the road it is likely prudent that about 75% of the roadbed around the furnace can be removable.  Any suggestions how this can be best accomplished? Thx in advance for your suggestions.
