Interview on my railroad modeling activities

Under the German title 'Virtuelle Eisenbahnwelten' (virtual railroad worlds), the online campus magazine of TU Braunschweig, which is the University of Technology at Braunschweig, Germany, published an interview on my modeling activities. Several pictures I posted on MRH either in the blog or in the forum were used as illustrations. The text is in German but, as readers of another forum confirmed, can easily be translated online using the Google translation tool.

Atlas RS-1 "New Haven-ized" into DERS-1b #0669

Just completed converting an out-of-the-box Atlas New Haven RS-1 into a (90%) accurate New Haven class DERS-1b. While NHRR, the added steam generator details would be useful for other railroads. Lots of added details and pics on the build thread here.

Enjoy! And if you have any tips/suggestions on how I could do better and/or improve, please let me know!

Looking for a water tank car

I'm searching for a water tank car, used on the Gilpin railroad in the late 1800's. I'm finding a lot of round tankers, but this one is a rectangular metal tank on a flatcar. Any ideas, I'm not adverse to hacking the tank together and kit-bashing one onto a flat car myself, but have not found much of any type of tank that would work yet.

I'm modeling in HOn3 scale so 1/87 sized. The tank held 2200 gallons of water. Basically a metal rectangular tank mounted on top of a narrow gauge flatcar.

My father will be traveling to the USA in a few months and will be heading dor the northwest US. He asked if there are any recommended model trains stores/hobby shops in Portland OR or Seattle WA.

Thanks in advance.

3D Print of an Illinois Terminal Rodgers Ballast Car - finished

In researching the Illinois Terminal, I stumbled across this image.

From back to front, it shows some 36' IT boxcars, which Accurail is coming out with before to long...

Then there are some gondolas...

Turntable control

I got a killer deal on a Diamond Scale turntable kit, and it came with the optional manual crank control. Now, I have the opportunity for another killer deal on a used PTC III turntable controller with the rotary switch control panel, minus the stepper motor and some of the wiring.

I'm reaching out to the collective here to see if acquiring the PTC III is worth the time and effort. Anyone have any experience with it, good, bad, or indifferent? It sounds like it's a rather foolproof and accurate way to index a turntable and control it.

12 episode TOMA build | 3'X5' | Old Bay District

Ok so for the past few years I have made static models for myself. My RR per say has always sat in storage as I do not have the room at home to build a large layout.

So I recently noticed this TOMA movement and realized it would be much like my planned 3X5 movement. The 3X5 is like more cowbell in the band. An extra foot each way give more room for my little land of plenty.

Please enjoy and possibly participate in this thread.
