Fun with Foamcore - build better mock-ups
This blog post will chronicle my adventures with using foamcore for mock-ups and the backdrop.

Start Small, THINK BIG - TOMA project layout: BENCHWORK (p3)
Miles Hale and friends build a project layout in the TrainMasters TV studio using the principles of The "One Module" Approach, also known as TOMA. In part 3, Miles is joined by carpenter Pierre Oliver as they assemble pre-fab benchwork to create three modules for the project. While the kits screw together quickly and easily, there are lots of opportunities to modify the modules to suit their plan.

The Placerville Branch - Dugan
I've spent several months working and making Dugan modelgenic. It's not finished yet, but it's coming along. Dugan was a station on the Placerville Branch and lasted til the line was abandoned in the 1980's. Its located between Latrobe down the hill and Shingle Springs not too far east. I've made it a TO (train order station) with lower quadrant Tomar built semaphore as well as being the designated maintenance crew point for the branch. Small cabins on the property allow the men some downtime from maintaining branch trackage.

Custom Weathering
I've often considered having someone weather my more expensive models. I've hummed and hawed about it for years. There are a few things that stopped me in the past - 1) I should be able to learn it on my own and develop a new skill, 2) it can be quite costly and I'd rather spend my hobby dollars on other things, 3) who do I trust to do it and how long will it take, and 4) what if the job ends up being no better than what I could do and I'd paid for it?

Tsunami 2 already does what Loksound full throttle does
I sometimes get mildly irritated with what often appears to me to be fawning praise of Loksound's full throttle decoders. One person says they are great and a bunch then pile in. Some people may be cowed with the praise and feel they have to agree. They may be very good decoders, and I have heard, watched and run a few examples, but they are not the only show in town.
C&O 120 Ton Crane
I recently purchased and built the Tichy 120 Ton Crane and would like to know if anyone knows the paint schemes that were used on the C&O during the 1950's. I believe they were W-8 etc. I can't find any color pictures even on the C&O Historical Society site. Were they black, blue, did they use yellow on the boom tip and hooks, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
