NH I-1 #1007 at New Britain Station

More photo inspiration! There's often more than meets the eye in old photos.

Building a Roster - What's Rare?

Perhaps a bit of a different perspective on building a roster, with a couple of carnival/circus trains thrown in.

S-2 #0604 at New Britain Station

Another great Cochrane photo, this time of an S-2 on one of the road freights at the station. As with other photos, this is a scene I will recreate on the model.

Operations at the Coal Pocket

Part II of building and operating the Household Fuel coal pocket in New Britain. This one focuses on the research for prototypical car movements to this industry.

NH I-1 #1001 at New Britain Station

I'm a bit behind here it appears. Here's another Kent Cochrane photo taken at the station. Obviously I was fortunate that two of the best New Haven enthusiast photographers (Kent and his friend Tom McNamara) were from the city I'm modeling!

Scratchbuilding a Coal Pocket

Here's the first in several posts on the research and construction of the Household Fuel coal pocket on my layout. I'm in the process of building the model now, and it will be the first signature structure completed.

While I've built structures before, this is my first scratch-building effort, although I wouldn't be this far without my friend Dick's help. The first post is about the prototype itself.

Why I love being a manufacturer

Darren and I at True Line Trains get our fair share of (deserved) flak (flack? how do Canadians spell it Darren?). We're really just a couple of guys who really love what we do, even if we're not that good at it.

Not trains, but a huge oversize load move

My friend Joseph texted me yesterday to let me know that a huge oversize load would be coming through that evening, right behind my house. The first part of its trip was via rail, but the part I saw was by this amazing and unique rig.

Line Poles

Since the Springfield show my "occasional blog" has become more regular. The topics jump around a bit, since I'm working on a lot of things when I can squeeze in the time. The most recent post is how I'm building line poles:

But there have been a lot of new posts since the beginning of February.

Happy Modeling!
