Stewart F3 (Kato) Truck Disassemble
I have Stewart F3 with pickup problems. The unit has a Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder and the connections are good. The engine loses power in random locations, so I believe the either the wiper pickups or the wires connecting the pickups need to be replaced. My question is this: How do you disassemble the trucks ? The side frames need to be removed but it seems they do not simply pry off.

Purple wire on a Loksound decoder.
Hey guys, I was wondering if the purple wire on a Loksound plug in decoder needs attached to anything. I've never done anything with this wire with previous installes and was just wondering. I attached the two brown wires to my speaker but not sure if I should be doing anything with the purple wire and if not soldered to anything will affect the sound and operation. Thanks!

It was exciting... for a while
Oh I was excited to install my first ESU LokSound decoder. After much research and deliberation (and the fact it was in stock) I bought the Rapido version of the LokSound Select decoder with FP7 sounds. A friend is just starting out in DCC and I assured him I could install sound in his old Atlas/Roco FP7.
Now I have done my own installs so far, both sound (steam) and just motor control and I pride myself on my soldering and electronic skills. (I used to do that sort of thing for a living) I started off with enthusiasm and confidence.
Shinohara code 83 turnouts with ME track?
I'm preparing to build an L-shaped switching layout using Micro-Engineering code 83 flex track and rail, and one spot in my plan calls for a #6 double crossover. I am trying to decide between purchasing a Shinohara double crossover or purchasing a Fast Tracks double crossover template and building one myself. For my current switching layout, I purchased a Fast Tracks code 83, #6 template for the turnouts, and the turnouts I built are very reliable.

How to Paint Static Grass
This week I'm looking at painting static grass - useful for when it just doesn't look right.
Line Poles
Since the Springfield show my "occasional blog" has become more regular. The topics jump around a bit, since I'm working on a lot of things when I can squeeze in the time. The most recent post is how I'm building line poles:

But there have been a lot of new posts since the beginning of February.

Atlas Master Line vs. Athearn Genesis, GP7
"Not trying to start a gang rumble!"
But, looking at painting a HO undecorated GP7 for Missouri Pacific (70s era). Athearn has a Genesis versions (Phase I, II, III) but also see where Atlas will ship their "Master Line" versions, (Dynamic brake, no dynamic brake), to dealers this month.
So, looking for feedback on your choice and why.
