June 2021 Ops Session and Layout Update
Hi it's been a busy few years working on the layout and developing a club around the layout.
The Surf Line has been completed from LA to San Diego, and the AV Line has been connected to Mojave. Scenery is now in progress there. Eventually we will connect all the levels having a straight run-through from San Diego to Seattle on the top deck.
Shadow Box Shelf Layouts
Hi all, just starting to get to the bench work stage of my HO layout as my garage is being converted next week. I'm thinking of a layout height of 130 cm/51". It will be 18" deep.
My question is what sort of distance do people leave between the top of the layout and the bottom of the facia of the shadow box?

High-speed trains lead the European economy to recovery
The ideal technology, which will benefit from the government's efforts to stimulate their economies out of the current crisis, is likely to absorb a large number of labor from the construction industry affected by the recession, provide a long-term economic boost when completed, and provide environmentally friendly benefits along with that.

Looking for help with how to install a brake line
I'm trying to find information (or better yet, actual photos) about how brake lines looked on early railroad passenger cars, probably circa 1860 - 1900. The kit I'm building simply has a thick line laid down the middle of the car body but doesn't take into account the elevation of running over the truck bolsters so I don't know how 'steep' the angle should be of the line between bolster and attaching to the middle of the car body.
How to build a signaling system that uses a CTC machine for operations, but works with out a dispatcher for non operations?
I have a couple questions for hobbyist out there who have built and use CTC machines with their layout. Our club is in the process of designing a signaling system and would like to have a dispatcher operated CTC machine. My question is how to build the signaling system so it works with the CTC machine during operations, but also works "automatically" when there is no dispatcher? I understand it will have to be some form of APB signaling, but how is routing accomplished and controlled by the signals with no dispatcher?

Think I might have to start all over
I think I may need to flatten the entire layout design, which means starting over. Advice is appreciated.
The current "L" wall layout, 10 ft x 10 ft is based on the Gum Stump and Snowshoe, a cute little 1960's design that has a switchback and a steep grade to pass over its own track. In my design, that grade and pass-under creates a 4" diff between levels and a 3 percent grade!
JMRI Throttle Looses Control
I am using JMRI with an Arduino Uno to run my layout.(Very early stages) I have a test loco that I am using with a Digitrax DH26 decoder. Everything seemed fine for about a month and all of a sudden the throttle refuses to control the loco. I am able to start the loco, but it runs at constant speed and using the throttle has no effect on speed, stopping or change of direction, I have to actually power-down everything to get the loco to stop. Any help would be appreciated.
