Bachmann Skarloey DCC w/sound conversion + kit-bash
Hi all, first time post here.
I entered the hobby about 2 months ago, due to a love of modeling. I started with scratch building some structures and masonry with foam, strip wood and aluminum.
I spent this past weekend converting a Bachmann Skarloey to DCC with sound. It's an inexpensive engine that is easy to take apart and I was drawn to HOn30 because I like N scale track but would rather model in HO for details.

Book review: Run like a Dream: TRACKWORK
I have recently had the pleasure of buying and reading most of the first book in the make it run like a dream series. To say I am favorably impressed would be a massive understatement. Unlike lots of lone wolf type modelers I am a member of a club with some fairly talented members. The advantage to this for me is learning from note worthy folks on an individual basis.

Dremel: great customer service
I bought a cordless Dremel 7300 recently and only used it a couple of times. Now the battery doesnt seem to be charging. The green light on the charger keeps blinking even after being plugged in for about a week. The customer support person I talked to was very nice and said that it should have been fully charged after about 3 hours. They are sending me a new battery pack free of charge.

Steel Mill Scene in a corner (now Coke Plant & Power Plant)
I have been agonizing for sometime now as to how, ...or if, I could fit a Walthers steel mill blast furnace into my layout plans. First off I have a real nice one thats all ready built, and secondly it would compliment my Balt city theme on the lower level (and most of us know Balt used to be a big steel town).
So now I think I have found a place for it to sit, but I need help in its orientation and location.
Helix vacuum close-quarters tool
Due to a recent session of carpentry-related layout work on our HO scale September 1927-era Sugar Pine Lumber Company/Minarets & Western Railway layout, I've been spending some time with the compact shop vac doing general cleanup. The existing shop vac tools didn't help much with the helix, though, with its 3-inches of clearance between levels. I needed a narrow vacuum tool that drew from the side, not the end.
DPM Scale frustration -- Gibbard Furniture
Been working on landscaping and structures of late. One thing I really wanted to have was a representation for the Gibbard furniture factory in Napanee -- on the riverside within sight of the viaduct. Had caged some DPM modules similar to the actual shapes and finally started building. Did not have enough to complete the structure so assembled a wall section and made castings using Smoothcast. So far so good. Not paying any attention, I worked on this whole business for a few weeks before comparing my structure to the other Walthers items in this little streetscape. Not good...

Am I Crazy?
For the last four years I've been working on my N scale Deerfield and Northern RR. The Lady of the Manor had given me permission to use the larger of two spare bedrooms. This allowed me to go from eight foot by thirty inches to an eleven foot by six foot by forty inch wide. A few months ago I suggested I might tear down the layout. "Are you crazy", the family asked. "There are mistakes" I replied. "It looks great to us" they reply.
