Depew, Lancaster & Western in HO scale.

Howdy all,

I thought I'd share another track plan I've been working on, this time in HO, based on Genesee Valley Transportation's Depew, Lancaster and Western railroad in Batavia, New York.

White Metal/Resin Kit

Im just starting on my very first resin/white metal kits

S scale NZR wagon. Couple of questions

What would I clean the white metal parts with before starting to build?

And just normal primer when painting?

staging in a helix

I  think this has been discussed before, but what are your thoughts of laying a second track on a helix, and using it for a staging yard? The helix will have 4 turns totalling over 80 feet, enough to stage 4, 20' trains on my layout.

Cookie Cutting or Spline

I did a bit cookie cutting for the layout recently but I do have a few more curves coming up and i'm liking the spline idea. I downloaded "Run like a Dream" recently, and was thinking if anyone has had or find this easy to do. Being in Australia  we don't seem to have homasote  but looks like it is absorbent material. Being new at this hoping to avoid making the wrong choice but the fun is trying different stuff out to see if it works. James

Staging Deck Development has begun...

So given the cold & wet weather that has descended on Melbourne today I decided to finish off the day in the warmth of the house and begin designing the staging level for the layout.

14"x 10' shelf layout

I decided I would share my experiences building my shelf layout. this is my third layout. My first layout was.....well, my first layout. I didn't know much but it was a good first step. My second, well, I had a room dedicated to an around the walls shelf layout with a peninsula. I only got as far as building the bench work. My marriage dissolved and I had to tear it down. Now, I have a lot less space, but a perfectly unusable space for anything else. So, its not the biggest, but it is surely turning out to be my most fun layout. I started about a month or so ago.
