Jefferson Plywood Madras Oregon HO scale Shelf Layout
I had to take down my Madras Switching layout a few years ago and I was disappointed that my Jefferson Plywood building had ended up in storage. I really liked the unique look of the building but I really did not have a plan or a place for it. In the recent issue of MRH the idea building a free standing layout by Joe with his Siskiyou II gave me an idea. I really like the look of the built in backdrop and valance, but I am wanting to build something narrower that I can hang on the wall.
accurate ore jennies for CN
Conventional wisdom has it that the CN ore jennie fleet all had 4 side ribs to support the lower hopper of the car in this style: http://www.cnrphotos.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=16437 . Unfortunately no one makes an exact model of this car, most models are of the more common Missabe car version with 2 support ribs: https://digital.library.cornell.edu/catalog/ss:20864701.
Has anyone ridden The Canadian lately?
Hi everyone,
I was considering taking The Canadian from Vancouver to Jasper/Edmonton next summer with my wife and two kids, ages 3 and 1 to see the national parks there. Has anyone ridden this stretch recently? What amenities or booking options would you recommend? Thanks!
need help building my first layout
ok so my dad has gifted me his old box of n scale trains and track he sent them in the mail they arrive tomorrow. based on information i have i assume the track looks like the ones in the pic below. so heres my question aka where im kinda stuck. i live in a very small studio apartment, so im wondering what would be the best thing to secure the track/layout to seeing as how i need to be able to move said layout when its not in use so ita out of the way and freeing up space general ply wood would be to heavy for said purpose would foan core board work or what are my options.
Get reaaady to rummmble: Chopper vs Chop-it
Hi.
I know this sort of question has no real answer, but I know I want to get either a NSWL Chopper (which one), or a Micro Mark Chop It. I'm just not sure which. Would those of you who have used either, or preferably both, please give me some pros and cons for each so I can make an informed decision. Price will have some bearing on my decision but will not be the only factor. Thanks in advance for your learned advice.
CP caboose yellow
Has anyone found a good acrylic color match for CP caboose yellow? I believe Polly Scale had a paint named CP caboose yellow. Also there appears to have been a slight change in the color CP used or it was due to fading since the wide vision cabooses appear to by a browner yellow when compared to photos of other cabooses. I am building a plywood sided cupola caboose. Testors Model Master has a lot of different yellow colors!

Give me some ideas for Appalachian railroads to model
As I have stated before, I like to build model railroads based on prototype information, typically in areas that I am living. For the past 10 years I've been modeling a small portion of the Tonopah and Tidewater around Goldfield Nevada circa 1915. I like scratch building and kit bashing to get what I want.
