Looking to Hire a Consultant

I'm reaching out to the MRH community. I'm looking for help with the one area of model railroading that I have no experience in... track planning.

I'm looking to hire a consultant to help with the "high-level" track plan for my HO Scale layout. Proto-freelance.

Operating session - first after lots of scenery work

First operating session in quite a long time completed!

Wide area IR detection

Here’s my idea:

Place IR-LEDs in the layout’s lighting valence – driven, perhaps,
by a picaxe at 38kHz (the freq. used by tv remotes). This will
flood the layout with IR – but should be easy to differentiate
from background light since it’s not only IR but at 38kHz pulses.

Holy Grails and freight cars

I found the holy grail of freight car modelling: both sides of the same car from roughly the same time period. I have a few of these TLT slab side hoppers I will be modifying to reflect their state in the early to mid 1980's. Surprisingly a few survived in their as delivered scheme (modified) until they were retired.

Old Walthers kits

Hello there I was wonder what size wheels do I need for the old walthers kits that mostly oil tankers. Do I use 33" or 36" wheels?

Anyone heard from TCS lately about status of Command Station/Throttle?

I've been waiting for this and trying not to buy the ESU CabControl.

Any updates would be appreciated.

844 accident

I was wondering what is now going to happen to steam trips after the accident that killed a woman standing to close to the tracks. Will this be the end of all trains rides because of insurance cost getting out of reach, like it is already, or will this be a wakeup call to make people stand away from the track, or now be run off because the railroads won't want anyone near the rails. Maybe fences will be put up to keep people away from the tracks, or police running you off or in worst case taking you to jail.

Modeling a diesel deadline

Hey guys

Something I've always wanted to model is a diesel deadline. All major railroads have them and I think it makes a statement as to the railroad's history.

On the proto-freelanced Allagash, we have a caboose track at Madrid. With the move to 1984 a few years back, the caboose track is used less and less as cabooses begin to become less common. We still run them on most of the road jobs, but most of the locals go without, per the prototype in that era.

ProtoThrottle on DCC++

I run my actual layout with NCE, but I built this DCC++ command station for an upcoming demo at the local NMRA division meeting.  I thought running the ProtoThrottle through the $50 DCC++ command station would be a fun way to wrap up the demo.

However, I'll keep the PT under wraps until the end of the presentation, or it will likely be the center of attention.

Here's a one minute video.

Is this PanPastel still usable

Hi,

I got this PanPastel from a vendor on Amazon.fr. The inside is a mess, and I don't know if I can still use it.
