Building the layout room
After a couple of years I have finally built into my spare room for the Lipakovo line, a Russian TTe narrow gauge logging line. Discussion about the track plan is HERE.
The first TOMA competition was the impetus for actually building a layout rather than just thinking about it, and the modules I have designed are very lightweight (the subject of another blog post to come...)
The main requirements for building into the room were:

What are your "Top Ten" Colors for Model Railroad Paints
I'm looking for opinions on this question:
Realistic water
I found out the hard way, if you don't stir the liquids to make realistic water long enough, when you pour it, it won't set or harden. I poured a stream 10 months ago and it is very tacky to the touch. however i found a solution for the problem. Instead of digging it all up and starting all over again, I have found that you can buy clear epoxy glue. The kind in the dual plunger reservoir

Railserve Beverage Bottling Facility, Update #4
My main production building is finished.... well sort of...
I am really happy with achieving the look I was going for. All of the walls are Evergreen styrene sheets with various angle strips for corner flashing.
The roof is made out of balsa wood, covered with 80 grit sandpaper, and spray a flat black. It looks very convincing in person but way to "new" for this building. It still needs some weathering.

Does anyone have experience with the HO Bachmann Alco S2 with DCC and sound? I noticed Train World has them on sale for less than $100, but I'm concerned because I've not had good experiences with Bachmann stuff recently. I bought a couple GE 44-ton switchers in November, and the decoder in one died suddenly (still runs in DC though), while the other runs very poorly.
I wondering about reliability and quality of both decoder and sound.
Thanks in advance!

DCC++
Hello All, recently I was watching DCC on an Arduino videos.
Just have one question. Gregg Berman in his description of the Motor Shield talks about the L298 Motor Shield.
When I purchased my Kuman Kit on Amazon Canada, I did not notice, but it came with an L293D motor shield.
I was wondering what the differences are and if this would in fact work for DCC++.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance.
LokSounds and LokPilots
I recently purchased my first sound equipped locomotive with LokSound. I like it very much and I am considering converting my fleet to ESU decoders. I had considered mixing Loksounds and LokPilots in my consists to save money but I have read that doesn't work very well. Is it possible to mix these two types in a consist without too much trouble?

What kind of bad stuff can happen
HI All
Im posting this in several categories to get input from multiple folks if thats a bad thing, im sorry
As part of my operations plan, I am planning to make a deck of "event" cards
at the start of each operating session (which might last many days as I am a Lone Wolf operator) I'll throw a 6 sided dice to see how many event cards to pull
assuming I'm using a standard playing deck, 30 of the cards will be "Normal Day - No Problems" (is that too high or too low or about right)
